What you'll be doing...

You'll be managing all engineering, maintenance, and enhancements to the Outside Plant Telephony Network, including structures, cables, and associated equipment. This critical role will coordinate with a variety of teams and have direct contact with business and residential customers. You'll work in diverse environments, both indoors and outdoors, to solve complex problems and implement innovative solutions to keep our customers happy.This role will focus around Outside Plant design, construction, GIS knowledge, splicing and testing, and municipality permitting experience.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or one or more years of work experience.

  • Willingness to travel.

  • A valid driver's license.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical/science/mathematics or in a related field.

  • Outside plant engineering experience.

  • Knowledge of permitting and ROWs in the Charlotte NC area.

  • Splicing and testing experience (either physically doing splicing and testing or experience designing and understanding a splice diagram).

  • GIS system knowledge (does not have to be a specific system).

  • Ability to review CAD drafts.

  • Understanding of the CDOT/NCDOT ROW processes and CDOT FTTP build.

  • Ability to work independently or in the field with limited supervision while in the field.

  • Designing additions, upgrades, repairs and enhancements.

  • Leading large scale complex projects.

  • Managing vendor relationships.

  • Selecting and pricing solutions based on the most effective, efficient, and timely design.

  • Coordinating with internal departments and liaising with residential and business end-users, building contractors, and property owners to implement solutions appropriately.

  • CCNP.

  • Experience with Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, AutoCAD and G-Suite Applications.

  • Experience with working application of engineering systems and databases such as VENUE, CoFEE, SiteTraker, Tableau, VCCP, Cheetah, OASIS, FUZE, NAR.

  • Knowledge of NG-PON2 Engineering with previous PON engineering experience.

  • Knowledge of SONET and ROADM Technologies.

  • Understanding of the CDOT/NCDOT ROW processes.

  • Understanding of the CDOT FTTP build.

  • Ability to work independently or in the field with limited supervision while in the field.

(Minimal calls expected to occur during this rotation) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Network Implementation and troubleshooting, focused on Security/Load Balancing/Wireless (respectively) Analyze business needs and designs, install and support network infrastructure services which includes: * Deriving and evaluating network/service architecture alternatives * Designing new services, infrastructure segments or other network solutions * Creating design diagrams and design documentation * Implementing services, infrastructure enhancements and changes * Creating operational turnover documentation, diagrams and training material * Auditing the network for infrastructure issues or opportunities for enhancement * Provide expertise in creating and troubleshooting WAN connectivity through routers, and switches * Responsible for evaluating network architecture and hardware/software configurations for security vulnerabilities and creating secure systems * Monitoring intranet, extranet, and internet systems for security threats * Installs and maintains LAN/WAN hardware and software technologies * Configures and installs routers and switches in accordance with company standards * Troubleshoots network usage and peripheral issues, resolve connectivity issues and maintains data and telecommunication connections Minimum Qualification MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * A bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field * 2 years or more experience with large scale Wide Area Network in a Cisco environment * 2-4 years of providing 3rd level support including OSPF and Cisco experience * CCNA Certification (Required) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: * In depth knowledge of IP Routing, Ethernet Switching, VPN's, Security, QoS, Remote/Local Access, WAN, Optical Networking, IP Services, Multicast, geographical and/or local server load balancing. Specific knowledge of the following: * Cisco ASA Firewalls * F5 Load Balancers * Cisco switches and routers (6509, Nexus 7K, 3850, 26xx, 29xx, etc) * WLAN experience required with heavy routing and switching Internet Protocol, OSPF, Spanning Tree and QoS experience required * Proven track record managing enterprise networks in a changing environment * Solid understanding of change management and repeatable/best practices within telecommunications * Ability to interface with business and technical management * Excellent written and verbal communications skills * Excellent team building and negotiation skills * Ability to respond well to change and manage change. * Must be able to work after hours to provide on-call support on a rotating basis. * Pluses would include: Knowledge of MPLS networks, network security, network architecture best practices.
