Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Jr.-Mid Level Systems Engineer in support of our NASA Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract. The position will be flexible for occasional telework with some travel to the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD and other NASA locations as needed. The selected candidate will be an integral part of a world class team that ensures NASA space-ground communications and associated services are reliable and meet mission requirements.

As prime contractor on the NASA Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution contract (SENSE) contract you will be a part of a dynamic team responsible for systems engineering, design, development, integration, test, and maintenance of a platform which will enable any mission to be supported by any service provider. The team is also responsible for the delivery of capabilities into Operations. The platform will enable NASA to provide communications and navigation services in the Near Space Region to NASA missions and other customers.

In this position, you will be responsible for supporting NASA's Search and Rescue Lab (SARLab). The work supports operations, maintenance, and sustainment of SARLab antenna systems and subsystems.

This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensure proper configuration processes are developed and implemented.

  • Write formal documents such as reports, procedures, and failure analyses.

  • Maintain a 3-ring binder of processes and procedures.

  • Develop and maintain a state-of-health dashboard detailing active status of each system and corresponding subsystem.

  • Able to perform Modeling and 3-D printing using SolidWorks.

  • Applying NASA standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the engineering and development life cycle.

  • Performing technical trade studies as required.

  • Work closely with SARLab personnel such as technical lead, operators, and IT security.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or other related technical field.

  • 2+ years of experience performing as a systems engineer developing operations concepts, requirements, system specifications, system interface documents, and supporting technical reviews.

  • Knowledge of NASA or Department of Defense system engineering lifecycle processes.

  • This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics.

  • Prior experience working with space communication systems or NASA project.

  • Knowledge of MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw) and system modeling languages (e.g., SysML, UML).

  • Experience using solidworks 3-D modeling tool.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy while understanding broader technical issues.

  • Ability to work in both a team environment and independently as a proactive self-starter.

  • Excellent organizational skills such as prioritizing and completing multiple tasks within critical deadlines.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Target Salary Range

$51,000 - $82,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
