ActioNet has an immediate opportunity for a Jr. Linux Systems Admin to support our NOAA NESDIS customer. This position requires a Public Trust Clearance Level and is located in Silver Spring, MD.
Are you ready to join our great Virtual Test Lab (VTL) and Tier III/Systems Admin team? You would serve as the program's JR. Linux Support engineer responsible for application-level configuration, troubleshooting, and administration for network applications hosted on the NESDIS Administrative LAN (NOAA5006). The perfect candidate for this position will have a knowledge and 1-2 year of experience managing VMware, Ansible, have a basic understanding of Networking (tcp/udp), RedHat 6/7, scripting language or languages (bash, Puppet, Nagios), and basic system administration on a Linux platform. This role will also support Winddows and future cloud administrative technologies.
You will join a close-knit and highly technical team of Systems Engineers who support leading-edge technologies and initiatives. This is a standard workweek environment supporting the NOAA customers across the globe.

Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the Jr. Linux Admin Support Engineer on the NESDIS Administrative LAN (NOAA5006) responsible for managing all systems administration duties in our Linux platform environment.
Manage the 5006 Linux OS desktop image and updates; Patch Linux environment as needed
Serve as backup support to the Sr Linux Engineers, Applications Support Engineer, and support the VTL Sr. Engineers' cloud projects
Provide backup (as needed) to other Sytems Admin duties (Windows, applications, Active Directory)
Manage the following tools:
Operating Systems: CentOS, RedHat Enterprise Linux, MS Windows Server 2008-2016
Environment:Puppet, Nagios, VMWare, Ansible
Others: Git, Atlassian Suite (Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket)
Monitor application logs and respond to events requiring intervention
Coordinate with system administrators to troubleshoot and resolve issues at the operating system or server level
Coordinate with service desk technicians to troubleshoot and resolve issues at the user workstation level
Maintain application-level documentation on applications, particularly specific to their configuration and usage on NOAA5006
2+ years basic Linux system administration (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, or similar) and scripting; Must have basic Linux (Bash shell) for basic operations
Ability to pick up additional applications as needed on either Windows or Linux hosts
Familiarity with basic scripting (bash, Puppet)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
A proactive approach and the ability to work both independently and within a team
Ability to work independently
