Job Purpose: Support environmental site characterization and remediation projects for clients across the globe and have a hand in transforming tomorrow.

As a Civil Engineer you will have the chance to support site characterization and remediation projects for a range of clients located primarily in the southwest region of the United States. With Jacobs you will develop remediation plans and manage and execute multiple complex environmental remediation projects. In this role you will contribute to the overall strategy and approach to the remediation of large, complex project sites. You will have in-depth knowledge of both in-situ and ex-situ remediation methods for soil and groundwater and help develop and lead large and diverse project teams in all phases of planning, execution, and delivery of site remediation, engineering and design work. Responsibilities Include:

  • Interact and negotiate with regulatory agencies on behalf of clients and contribute to delivery of strategic project objectives which include: health, safety, environmental responsibility; risk management; client expectations for quality, schedule, and budget; financial performance for project specific targets; project team and field program expectations; operational performance and line of business expectations; and quality.

  • Provide creative solutions to complex environmental problems by combining regulatory risk assessment in combination with remedial technologies.

  • Prepare and review construction contracts, scopes of work and specification for remediation and design work, oversee staff and subcontractors conducting field investigations.

  • Focus on health and safety, develop client relationships and work alongside our Client Account and Project Managers to position for and win work.

  • To be considered for this role you must have at least 2 years of experience in the environmental consulting industry with emphasis on remediation of various media and associated aspects of environmental characterization.

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or civil engineering.

  • Must be able to obtain/maintain 40-hr HAZWOPER certification, and demonstrate a strong commitment to Health and Safety.

  • Experience completing remedial investigations and feasibilities studies.

  • Experience preparing and reviewing remediation design work for construction drawing packages and specifications.

  • Ability to demonstrate a strong record in health and safety, including experience with behavior-based health & safety programs.

  • Ability to demonstrate expertise in managing and executing projects, partnered with some business development experience within the site management, construction management and remediation.

  • Must be able be in the field up to 20%, including local/regional sites that will require overnight travel.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • 3-6 years of experience in the environmental consulting industry with emphasis on remediation of various media and associated aspects of environmental characterization.

  • Currently licensed as a Professional Engineer in Arizona, or the ability to obtain reciprocal licensure.

  • Construction and/or field experience with implementation of remedial strategies.

Our office is a leading engineering consulting business in Arizona, providing multi-disciplinary solutions covering all aspects of environmental consulting services, geotechnical engineering, infrastructure design and management, construction services, materials testing/engineering and water supply and resources services. Key Responsibilities The position will involve all facets of environmental remediation including, but not limited to, remediation feasibility studies, remedial investigations, remedial design of treatment facilities, and operation and maintenance support. This position offers the opportunity to work with a large and diverse team of engineers and geologists to address complex environmental challenges executing the following roles/responsibilities: * Manage small to mid-scale environmental remediation projects as well as serve as assistant project manager on large, complex projects * Support operation and maintenance of remediation systems and document site operations in routine monitoring reports * Analyze and interpret environmental data and prepare documents supporting remediation of contaminated sites * Sample soil, water, and waste to characterize contamination and evaluate remedial progress * Design treatment systems, prepare engineering evaluations, and develop conceptual cost estimates * Prepare Work Plans, Operation and Maintenance Plans, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Feasibility Studies, and Remedial Action Plans * Prepare environmental permit applications and compliance reports supporting remediation system operations (e.g., air permitting, sewer discharge permitting, etc.) * Conduct emission calculations and compliance audits in support of other air permitting projects * Prepare design/bidding documents for soil/groundwater remediation systems soil excavation projects, demolition work, and conveyance piping * Track payment applications, requests for information, change order requests and general construction phase submittals * Conduct construction closeout activities including final inspections, completion of punch lists, record drawings, and contract closeout Skills / Qualifications Basic/Required Qualifications * BS in Civil/Chemical/Environmental Engineering * PE (Arizona) * 5 to 10 years of environmental consulting experience with increasing levels of responsibility managing projects involving: * In situ and ex situ soil and groundwater remediation technologies * Hydrogeology * Environmental chemistry * Environmental compliance * Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills; Strong organizational abilities; Position requires working effectively in multi-disciplinary teams * Consistency and attention to detail * Strong fundamental math skills and ability to perform engineering calculations * Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if required * Ability and willingness to travel to project sites primarily in AZ - Approximately 10% overnight travel * HAZWOPER 40 hour training * Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy Preferred Qualifications * MS in Civil/Environmental/Chemical Engineering * Experience implementing soil vapor extraction, thermal/catalytic oxidation, carbon adsorption and in-situ remediation including oxidation, reduction, and/or bioremediation * Creative, high energy individual that can identify and understand problems and offer innovative ideas and solutions.
