Position: Jr. Level CE&I Bridge/Roadway Inspector

We recruit top talent and are currently seeking a full-time Jr. Level CE&I Technician to join our Transportation Business Unit in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

S&ME's Transportation Business Unit provides construction project management and inspection services for transportation entities throughout South Carolina.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical duties associated with the oversight, administration and inspection of transportation projects, including roadway, bridge, rail, pedestrian, port, and /or aviation, to determine contractor's compliance with the contract, plans and specifications;

  • Observe and inspect various contractor's operations to include clearing and grubbing, earthmoving, paving, concrete pavement, bridge construction, pipe installation, traffic control, pavement marking, etc.;

  • Materials sampling and testing;

  • Prepare material reports and daily diaries;

  • Perform a variety of calculations, computations and documentation associated with the project inspection and material testing;

  • Inspect erosion control devices for plan and permit compliance;

  • Verify line and grade with survey equipment;

  • Prepare field books for contractor payment documentation;

  • Attend meetings and interact with third party construction personnel;

  • Perform DBE and EEO compliance surveys.

CE&I Inspectors are subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and to various types of weather and field conditions, including heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, hazards of highway construction sites and heavy equipment, and may travel/work extended hours, weekends and/or holidays.

Pay rate is based on level of experience and applicable certifications held. Additional incentives are available for existing applicable certifications.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED required, 2-year technical degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology or higher, preferred;

  • 2+ years of highway related construction or inspection experience preferred;

  • One or more SCDOT certifications required: Nuclear Gauge, Earthwork, Foundations, Asphalt Roadway and Portland Cement Concrete preferred;

  • Ability to lift between 40-50 lbs.;

  • Math and technical writing skills.

This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. We recruit top talent and are currently seeking a full-time Certified Welding Inspector to join our team in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The individual will be responsible for the following: * Visual inspection of structural steel, including bolted and welded connections; * Testing and inspection of fireproofing and other materials utilizing non-destructive methods; * Review of architectural and structural plans and specifications in preparation of field observations on construction sites; * Documentation of field activities, observations, and testing results on construction projects, and their conformance with (or deviation from) project plans and specifications; * Coordination of testing assignments on various projects; * Calibration of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards. Assignments may require 50+ hour work weeks (during periods of peak workload), as well as off-shift and weekend work, as required. Qualifications: * High School Diploma/GED required; * AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required; * 3 years metals testing experience preferred; * ICC Bolting certification preferred, but not required; * Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions; * Willingness and ability to safely climb structures to heights in excess of 200 feet; * Willingness to travel and possibly work on extended out-of-town projects; * Experience in the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems.
