Junior High School Math Teacher (2024-2025 School Year) Julian is a small rural town in the mountains of Eastern San Diego County - so Julian Junior High is not your typical neighborhood school. Our K-8 district consists of one elementary and one junior high school, covers 600 square miles, includes two Native American reservations and serves a diverse student population of 300 students (approximately 90 in grades 6-8). Our mission is to provide every student success in learning. We are dedicated to the individual development of attitudes, skills, knowledge, and responsibility essential to successful achievement in school and society. We actively involve parents and the community in supporting student learning and development. Job Summary: Math Teacher
Grades 6-8 Teaching in a small school like JJH comes with unique opportunities and challenges. Key areas that may differ from larger schools include: • Program Responsibilities: As the sole single-subject math teacher at JJH, you will be responsible for creating and implementing a student-centered program for all students in grades 6-8.
Increased responsibility: Without a team of grade-level single subject teachers in your content area, you will be solely responsible for planning, implementing and assessing all 6-8 math lessons.
Increased freedom to meet the needs of students: Without the requirement to stay in lock-step with grade-level partners, you have flexibility to accelerate or to take additional time to review material as appropriate.
Looping: As the sole math teacher at JJH, you will have the opportunity to form a relationship with students and parents over the course of the three years they will attend JJH.
Rewards of long-term relationships: You will have the ability to benefit from a shared academic vocabulary, long-established classroom expectations from year to year, and the goodwill and rapport built up from previous years. • Electives: You will have the opportunity to teach an elective course of your choice.
Expand beyond a single subject: As a small school, our staff has the opportunity to branch out beyond a single credentialed subject to offer elective classes. You will have the ability to select and design an elective course that fits your experience/interests. Examples of electives previously taught includes: Art
