We are looking for a talented and hungry Junior Front End Web Application Developer! Someone who wants to create large-scale, accessible, and responsive web applications. Who gets excited at the opportunity to grow in an environment writing modular, functional code that will continuously deliver value to users.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with Product Owners and UX Designers to bridge the gap between graphical design and technical implementation; taking an active role on both sides and defining how the application looks as well as how it works.

  • Coordinate with other developers in order to produce an end-to-end user experience.

  • Gather and refine requirements based on technical and functional needs.

  • Write well designed, testable, efficient, and functional reactive code.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest standards, technologies, frameworks, and trends.

  • Ensure technical feasibility and optimize for performance and scalability.



  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in a web development role

  • Complete a coding challenge to help us assess your skills

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient knowledge of responsive web-design

  • Knowledge of cross-browser compatibility issues

  • Solid understanding of the latest security and performance concerns

  • Works well both independently and with other developers

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • BONUS if you have a Bachelor's degree in a related field

Required relevant experience:

  • JavaScript

  • HTML

  • CSS

  • Angular

  • TypeScript

  • Leveraging RESTful APIs

  • Git Version Control

  • Package Manager (NPM/Yarn)

  • Task Runners (Grunt/Gulp/Webpack)

  • Unit Testing

Bonus experience (nice to have):

  • Functional Reactive Programming Principles

  • UI/UX Principles

  • ADA Accessibility Principles

  • CSS Preprocessors (Sass/LESS/Stylus)

  • CI/CD

  • UI Framework (Bootstrap/SemanticUI)

  • Working with distributed/remote teams


This role will be working full time out of our office in north Austin, near 183 and Mopac. Our north Austin office is open and bright, and boasts a fully stocked kitchen, arcade and board games, lots of conference rooms, and plenty of desk space to collaborate with teammates or take heads-down time when needed.

As a Front End Engineer on our team, you will be responsible for adding innovative new features to drafthouse.com and our other web applications, most of which are built using AngularJS. </p> <p>We are a small team, where each team member has a lot of autonomy. To thrive in our environment, you must be a self-directed engineer with a high quality bar that can own complex features from cradle to grave. Alamo Drafthouse is obsessed with creating amazing guest experiences, so you must have a fanatical attention to detail and be able to implement a user interface with pixel-perfect precision.</p><p>The Front End Developer’s primary responsibilities include:</p><ul> <li>Own a feature from design to deployment, using your passion and skills to deliver a high quality experience for our guests. This will include providing feedback to the UX team, collaborating with the backend team to design the appropriate APIs, developing reusable components, planning for and testing all edge cases, and participating in design and code reviews along the way. </li> <li>Delivering high performance on both mobile and desktop while producing an app that is highly usable and ADA compliant.</li> <li>Assisting with support and maintenance of our web apps. This can sometimes mean working with our guests or internal users to reproduce a bug or develop a workaround. When a critical bug is discovered, we will count on you to squash it quickly so that our guests are not affected for long.</li> <li>Coaching and mentoring other team members while willing to be coached and mentored yourself.</li> </ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p>We have high expectations at Alamo Drafthouse. As a member of a small team, you must be very self-directed, able to operate without much oversight, and know when to ask for help. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>A computer science degree (or similar) from a top-notch university.</li> <li>A minimum of 4 years technical experience building single page web applications using a framework such as AngularJS or React. You should be able to write HTML, CSS and Vanilla JavaScript in your sleep, and have a deep knowledge of AngularJS best practices and commonly used modules. </li> <li>Complete commitment to an world-class user experience and willingness to go the extra mile to deliver it.</li> <li>An “eye for design” and a demonstrated history of working with a design team to deliver pixel perfect implementations of their designs.
