EFI is seeking an entry level chemist to join our analytical group in our Ypsilanti, MI office.

As the world leader in digital imaging and print management solutions for commercial and enterprise printing, this is a great opportunity to work within a technology that is changing the way the world prints.

In this hands-on position you will join our analytical team, whose focus is the analysis of various components/materials within industrial inkjet inks and printers. This position will help drive the successful development and optimization of EFI inkjet products.


  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis on raw materials and finished products

  • Perform analysis on R&D formulations

  • Preparation and safe handling of laboratory samples

  • Routine cleaning of laboratory equipment and glassware

  • Assist with method validation

  • Meticulous documentation of procedures and results

  • Draw correlations between analytical data and real-world results

  • Maintain, organize, and keep a clean lab

  • Occasional wet-chemistry formulation work to assist chemical R&D and QCS groups Candidates must demonstrate self-motivation and commitment to continuous learning in a fast-paced environment


  • Bachelors or Master's level degree

  • Experience: 0 2 years

  • Excellent math and communication skills and the ability to closely follow written directions are a necessity

  • In-depth knowledge of any of the below analytical techniques is favorable: GC-MS, Particle Size Measurement, HPLC, SEM, FTIR, FTIR microscopy, XRF, UV-Vis. Preference will be given to those candidates that have prior experience with GC-MS

  • Previous knowledge/experience working with nanoparticles, nanoparticle dispersions (aqueous or organic), or UV-curable systems is highly favorable

  • Demonstrated mechanical ability

  • Will require extended periods of bending, sitting, standing, typing, and the ability to occasionally lift more than 50lbs

Job Description: In this hands-on position you will join the product development team whose aim is to develop ink sets for new or existing inkjet printers. This position will help drive the successful creation of new ink formulations and qualification of the formulations on the printer in question. Main Duties and Responsibilities * Prepare ink formulations aimed at achieving a well defined set of requirements * Conduct analytical testing on ink formulations and prints * Keep complete and accurate records of measures, techniques, and procedures followed or performed * Work with others within the company to carry out the broad range of tests required to validate formulations. * Scale up and test formulations, giving support to ongoing activities in product development * Able to meet deadlines and align with project goals while working under pressure * Track inventory and support quality control of raw materials * Report status of work on a daily basis to a supervisor and on a weekly basis team(s) * Provide detailed reports in formats such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. * Responsible for the general upkeep of the lab and maintenance of laboratory equipment * Observe and maintain compliance with safety and security procedures Job Requirements: * BSc degree in chemistry, polymer science, or material science or Associates degree in related field. * Demonstrated experience with regards to formulating inks and/or coatings. * Excellent organizational skills, basic computer skills, and strong communication skills with the ability to work on a cross-functional team. * Attention to detail and accuracy along with understanding the importance of experimental reproducibility and repeatability * Strong sense of work ethic with integrity, tenacity, self motivation, and a high sense of urgency in executing experiments * Experience formulating water based inks and coatings. * Experience formulating with inorganic pigments, particularly white * Ink Jet experience desired but not essential. #LI-BW1 Job location: Ypsilanti, MI EFI is an "Affirmative Action/EEO/Protected Veteran/Disabled Employer" EFI Ypsilanti MI
