Job Summary The Master/Journeyman Plumber performs skilled technical work in the installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of domestic water systems, heating water systems, sanitary sewer systems, storm sewers, gas pipe (both threaded and fusion welded), steam and condensate pipes, and fire protection systems in all UMC structures and grounds. Job Specific Responsibilities Daily assignments may include but are not limited to: Inspects UMC work sites to determine plan and/or layout for proposed work.

This may involve, locating underground piping, interpreting blueprints and schematics, installing materials and equipment determined by the scope of work, and use of hand and power tools common to plumbing trade. Completes assigned projects and work orders which may include but not limited to, repairs or replacements of damaged plumbing fixtures, electronic flush valves, faucets, and drinking fountains Protects UMC property and equipment from damage during assigned work which may include but not limited to; removing furniture, wall fixtures, equipment from work sites, use of tarpaulins, and erecting or dismantling scaffolds or support structures, when needed. Use of work order system to document costs, time, materials, and provide periodic status reports Perform preventive maintenance spot checks on equipment to ensure proper working condition Provides technical assistance for the purchase of new or replacement plumbing tools and equipment Contribute to an accident- free work environment by complying with operator's instructions for the use of tools, wearing proper protective gear, reporting incidents of unsafe work activity, and complying with all UMC Safety protocols, federal regulations and laws governing environmental protection, safety, hazardous waste disposal, and use of chemical substances and materials common to plumbing trade.

Education and Experience High school diploma or GED Completion of a plumbing vocational/technical school or recognized apprenticeship program, in the plumbing trade preferred 6 years demonstrated success in plumbing trade Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations Valid Driver's License Valid Master/Journeyman plumbers license. Valid Backflow preventer license preferred at hire or required within 12 months of hire in the role Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of building and plumbing codes Professional use of hand and power tools such as sewer auger or vacuum plunger, acetylene torch, soldering and welding equipment, sewer camera, pipe locator, and related plumbing tools. General mechanical ability which includes basic aptitude of electrical test equipment, knowledge of small hand and power tools, mechanical equipment and materials applicable to the plumbing trade.

The ability to interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics The ability to locate underground piping and document piping location on blueprints Working knowledge of "how to" make adjustments in pumps, regulators, and associated piping, threading, bending, or fusion welding pipe either by hand or by use of power equipment, screwing, bolting or fitting gaskets, couplings, traps and valves, and soldering, lead wiping, and/or acetylene cutting and welding connections to seal joints where necessary Computer literate The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships Internal: Requires close interaction with various departments within UMC Physical Capabilities Must be able to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis; prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching on a daily basis.

Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically-powered tools and plumbing equipment. Environmental/Working Conditions This position requires exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners common to plumbing work that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.
