LOOKING FOR: A mission-driven, Journeyman level engineer with an active secret clearance to join our AMERICAN SYSTEMS Maritime Lifecycle Readiness team as a Journeyman Coast Guard Mechanical Engineer in Washington, DC. Candidate will support the United States Coast Guard.

As a Journeyman Marine Engineer you will:

  • Work within the Maritime Lifecycle Readiness Division to provide engineering support to the United States Coast Guard - Surface Forces Logistics Center, Engineering Services Division (SFLC-ESD).

A week in the life of a Journeyman Marine Engineer:

  • Assist with Senior Mechanical Engineers in design, development, and evaluation of the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, such as propulsion systems and auxiliary systems.

  • Team member in supporting the US Coast Guard reviewing third party design modifications and improvements to mechanical systems and components.

  • Assist with performing design reviews, evaluating constructability, helping resolve technical issues, and managing information generated through the design and construction phases of multiple and concurrent projects.

  • Assist with marine engineering analysis as they relate to vessels.

  • Assist with team to create graphical representations of structures and systems.

  • Assist with team to inspect equipment or systems.

  • Assist in research of advanced engineering designs or applications.

  • Assist with preparing technical reports for internal use.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • 3 years of overall relevant experience

  • Ability to obtain a secret clearance

At least 1 year of experience:

  • marine specific fields (i.e. auxiliary systems, propulsion systems, fluids and hydraulics)
  • Working with Microsoft office suite
  • experience with Auto-CAD

A week in the life of a Human Factors Engineer: * Plans all phases of laboratory and field studies as required to satisfy customer needs. * Mastery of a wide range of quantitative, qualitative, analytical, and evaluative methods of systems analysis to assess human performance, cognitive workload, GUI usability and interaction, ergonomics, and requirements verification. * Conducts evaluations from inception to completion, including the identification of facilities, measurement methods, subjects, collection and analysis of data, and documentation of results. * Accurately documents the results of these evaluations in well-crafted reports, Coast Guard letters, memos, briefings, or demonstrations aimed at increased operational effectiveness by recommending design alternatives and trade-offs, or suggesting additional study efforts.
