POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, work with Facilities Management employees to perform cutting and welding on steam and return lines, rails, bollards, and poles; perform steam trap maintenance; measure, cut, thread and install pipe; and assist outside contractors and/or utility providers with shutdown and repair work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Utilize the university's computerized maintenance management system. Perform seasonal inspections; remove snow and ice from walks, steps, driveways, etc. and apply salt if necessary in assigned areas.

Drive all vehicles assigned to Motor Pool and Grounds Department. Perform other related duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

Minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Welder or equivalent experience outside of the University. Must hold ASME boiler and pressure vessel pipe certification in the G6 position.

Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Willingness to adjust work schedule when necessary and as determined by the supervisor, including work shift changes

Willingness to work overtime and holidays

Basic computer skills and willingness to learn

Ability to work well with others; integrity and dependability

Willingness and ability to follow instructions

Good physical condition to perform the daily work assignments that are inherent in this job description.

Further examples are: ability to lift and manipulate objects weighing up to 70 pounds regularly and the ability to perform work from ladders, scaffolding and elevated surfaces.
