ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

TES is hiring temporary Journeyman Electricians.

  • Duration: These roles are anticipated to last roughly 5.5 - 6 months.7/1/2024 - 12/31/2024

  • Compensation and Benefits: $46.87/hr. Eligible for Medical Benefits, Vacation, Sick, and Holiday pay

  • Location: 100% on site, UC San Diego Campus

  • Available work schedules: Mon-Thursday 12pm-10:30pm or Mon-Friday 6am-2:30pm

DESCRIPTION

  • Test, modify, repair, install and alter campus electrical systems, equipment and components (600 volts and below) including but not limited to: power circuits to offices, labs and/or mechanical spaces, motors and motor controllers, watt-hour meters, lighting systems, light poles, control devices, transformers, panels, lightening arresters and conductors to ensure building systems and equipment are operating properly.

  • Respond to trouble calls.

  • Make quick analysis of mechanical and electrical problems through proper troubleshooting techniques and use of various test equipment and schematics.

  • Install metering devices to measure power consumption and to provide proper application, sizing and installation.

  • Repair and/or replace campus lighting systems to include: walk way and exterior building lighting.

  • Read and interpret blueprints to diagnose electrical problems such as short circuits, tripped breakers, and overloads to ensure electrical needs are met.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven journey level skills and experience performing modifications, repairs, installations and alterations to utility distribution systems and components.

  • Proven journey level knowledge and experience working on a variety of control devices used in electrical, lighting and machinery systems.

  • Experience testing and troubleshooting main distribution power and correcting when necessary (600 volts and below).

  • Experience testing, troubleshooting, adjusting, synchronizing and aligning equipment machinery and electrical components.

  • Experience reading, interpreting and understanding blue prints (building, mechanical and equipment), diagrams and other technical information to perform needed adjustments and repairs.

  • Experience interpreting nameplate data and testing and troubleshooting motors, interlock system starters and control devices.

  • Experience working with and knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) regulations.

  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools and precision measuring devices.

  • Experienced used of standard computer systems and applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), electronic mail and web-based applications.

  • Experience planning, scheduling and ordering materials for all types of electrical construction jobs.

  • Ability to document electrical changes and or new installations through written information and/or prints.

  • Familiarity with NFPA-70e (electrical safety code)

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • DOJ/FBI background checks and clearances are required prior to hire.

  • DMV check and clearance are required prior to hire.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license with good driving record.

This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $97,865 - $97,865 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $46.87 - $46.87

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
