Summary

Seeking candidates with packaging experience and data validation. This position is a Principal Packaging Engineer position within Baxter's Engineering Group.

With some supervision, performs sustaining engineering activities on current product packaging and packaging processes with priorities based on quality and compliance, continuity of supply, and cost savings initiatives. When applicable, will support new product development teams by acting as an extended team member to provide the design, development and verification testing of new product packaging and assist the manufacturing plants in qualification of new packaging processes. This position applies a solid understanding of theories/practices utilized in the field of packaging. Primary products to be supported/packaged are flexible IV solution containers ranging from 25mL to 6L in size, glass vials/bottles, and a variety of sterile and sterile fluid path disposable sets/devices.The position will include exposure to several types of packaging materials and processes including flexible and rigid films, HDPE and foil pouches, corrugated design and protective packaging, thermoforming, flow-wrap, form/fill/seal, printing technologies and other related packaging processes. The position will require travel to the manufacturing plants and packaging suppliers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or contribute to the planning and execution of packaging projects for a variety of project types including Quality/CAPA, Regulatory Compliance, Supplier Notices of Change, Cost Savings, and New Product Introductions at various domestic and international manufacturing facilities.

  • Manage projects with moderate complexity and scope and be required to effectively manage multiple projects with minimal assistance and supervision. May work on a large scale program or several smaller projects.

  • Develop protocols for testing and engage in Change Control activities interfacing with multiple functional groups, including manufacturing plants and suppliers in a team environment to execute packaging changes.

  • Approve new packaging materials and systems, studying and recommending techniques to improve and/or cost reduce existing products/processes, investigating new sources for packaging materials.

  • Create packaging material specifications, associated drawings, and packaging procedural specifications to provide the required technical information necessary to support the product/packaging configuration.

  • Plans, schedules, and collaborates with cross-functional team supporting packaging projects to achieved project objectives and milestones.

  • Expected to utilize their experience to generate cost savings ideas by recommending new materials or design modifications and resolve packaging issues by using critical thinking skills and DMAIC techniques to solve complex problems.

  • Perform financial planning and assists in the analysis to justify project approval.

  • Must have experience or advanced training and demonstrate proficiency in packaging materials and processes, problem analysis and resolution, statistical methods, and design of experiments.

  • Proficient in applicable change control and development methodology and processes required to execute packaging projects.

  • Successful track record of managing packaging projects possessing a sense of urgency and commitment to meet project milestones to ensure manufacturing plants and R&D teams achieve targeted goals.

  • Cross-functional team experience, including technical and non-technical work.

  • The ability to deal with ambiguity and effective use of creative problem solving skills.

  • Embrace Lean Principals and utilize concepts such as standard work to drive continuous improvement.

  • Ability to organize and present technical and project management overviews with minimal assistance

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Packaging or relevant Engineering degree (e.g. Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical) with a minimum of 5 years of experience working in the field of packaging.

  • Experience in the healthcare industry preferred.

Summary Manage and coordinate the activities of facilities to ensure that work / projects are completed within time, cost, and quality constraints; review and recommendation of award of construction contracts; ensures the effective use of material, equipment and personnel in sustaining the facility infrastructure. Monitor and control labor and capital expenditures. Manage relationships with external parties providing facilities-related services to the facility. Perform all duties with a focus on optimizing safety, quality, service and cost. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Manages equipment techs and all facilities maintenance and equipment, including immediate needs, as well as a strategic 3 year plan. * Budgets for, design and maintain a regulatory compliant program. Reports monthly data/trends. Initiates and completes corrective actions related to pest control in a timely manner. * Supports client and regulatory audits on pest control, housekeeping and facility subject matter, CAPA closeouts and audit responses as needed. * Primary insurance contact for annual risk management inspections and associated client audits/inspections, including hot work permits, facility sprinkler system maintenance, testing and impairment programs. Responsible for audit report responses and coordination of closing associated action items in a timely manner. * Assists EHS Manager to implement and maintain waste management program across facility, including categorizing waste, storage and disposal, inspections, record keeping and reporting, and other compliance activities required to meet local, state & federal environmental regulations. * Interviews, hires, coaches, motivates, develops, recognizes and manage performance of direct reports. * Manages housekeeping activities across facility, including liaison with third-party janitorial contractors, maintain inventory of required housekeeping supplies, working with supply chain to procure supplies, maintain buildings, rest rooms and meeting rooms required by cGMP & Baxter requirements. * Develops and implements a fire protection management program, including periodic inspection, monitoring and maintenance of the system, facilitate audits/ inspections with risk insurers and clients, close open actions in a timely manner. * Develops and implements a program to maintain facility access control and security camera systems, including maintenance of related hardware, software and accessories, maintain inventory of parts and develop in-house experience to trouble shoot and perform minor maintenance and repair of the system, and coordinate third-party service of the system on an as-need basis. * Manages security guard services with third-party contractor to ensure Baxter security protocols and post order procedures are followed. * Ability to work with multiple contractors and vendors to schedule repairs, service and trouble shoot security, fire, janitorial services and other facility compliance related systems, including performing contractor EHS training and project management. * Primary assistant to EHS for emergency evacuation, near-miss closeout and fire drills. * Ensures team members' adherence to all environmental, health and safety SOP's, equipment, policies and procedures, including any department specific requirements. * Develops, implements and maintain business processes, standard operating procedures and work instructions and forms according to appropriate regulations for all departments in the facility. * Provides technical expertise and resources, cooperating and coordinating with production, engineering, and technical services. * Interviews, hires, coaches, motivates, develops, recognizes and manages performance of direct reports. * Main point of contact and relationship manager for external parties such as local energy provider and various service providers.
