Community Assistance Network (CAN) has operated in Baltimore County for nearly sixty years, focusing on addressing and eradicating poverty in our communities. Since the pandemic and resultant economic effects, CAN has been uniquely positioned to provide additional needed support for struggling families, particularly in Essex. Funding for CAN will provide the opportunity to assist more families with case management, housing assistance, job development, connection with other existing Baltimore County resources, and holistic support for the whole family. Additional staffing is needed to help residents in Essex connect with available resources and navigate a post-COVID reality. Many individuals and families have already received COVID-related assistance but are still struggling to make ends meet. 

This is a 18-month contractual position that starts on the 1st of July of 2024 and ends on the 31st of December of 2026. Given that this is a fixed-term position, both you and the company have the full right to terminate this agreement at any time, without the need for an official reason, via a written notice.

Under the supervision of the Senior Job Developer supports the mission of CAN by identifying career opportunities and strengthening job readiness skills for job seekers in the community.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct intakes and assessments with job seekers to understand and explore their strengths, needs, interests, aptitudes, and capabilities.
  • Assist clients to create and revise resumes as well as complete employment applications.
  • Knowledge of the current labor market as well as experience using job search tools and resources.
  • Create and facilitate interactive job readiness workshops for community members.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with a diverse client base.
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain partnerships with local employers.
  • Build effective partnerships with external providers and training partners to ensure that job seekers have access to and utilize needed services and supports.
  • Intermediate level skills using MS Office applications, internet, and internet email accounts as well as various computerized tutorials.
  • Create and manage case notes and data in a timely manner. Maintain case management files and update the Human Management Information System (HMIS)
  • Participate in community events, job fairs and networking opportunities to secure leads and resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education, Experience and Knowledge

Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Experience working with at-risk populations or community outreach.  Other skills/qualifications include:

  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong note taking and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid State of Maryland driver’s license and own transportation required.
