PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Resource Specialist provides individualized job placement assistance to individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment to help them obtain competitive employment. The position is located in Career Connections, a service of Goodwill of Southern Nevada, Inc. Career Connections is a free walk-in employment center providing job placement services to members of the public and assisting local businesses find motivated and qualified employees.
Effectively communicate the enrollment, job search and job placement process.
Handle external communication with local employers through phone, email, etc.
Handle internal communication with the Lead Career Coach and Career Center and VIP Manager.
Give information regarding services available through Career Connections;
Sign job seekers up for our services, daily check in for the resource center;
Assist job seekers in the resource center with emails, resumes and online applications when needed
Interview participants and review paperwork necessary to receive supportive services;
Copy I-9 information for Intake and Career Coaches as needed without leaving the front desk area;
Meet goals set for the department.
Participate in departmental and agency meetings.
Maintain office equipment and conduct trouble-shooting.
Ensure proper levels of office supplies.
Gather and share information about the local job market.
Support the client throughout the job search.
Assist job seekers with completing paper and online job applications.
Develop job leads and refer job seekers to local employers.
Help job seekers obtain pre-employment documents (i.e., Sheriff's cards, Health cards).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Prefer a dynamic enthusiastic person with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, patience, diplomacy, and high level of customer service skills required.
Experience working with persons who have barriers to employment from various socio-economic, professional and ethnic backgrounds preferred. Barriers to employment may include having low income, limited language skills, limited education and felonies.
Bachelors of Arts degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and ability/willingness to work with economically and culturally diverse clientele required.
Ability to work independently and in a team with ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with Las Vegas valley labor market, business community, human services, and a working knowledge of disability-related issues.
Excellent oral and written presentation skills. Excellent time management skills and ability to work under pressure.
Solid computer skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Email and Internet.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
