Job Description Job Description COMPANY OVERVIEW Brown & Co. is a leading retailer specializing in luxury watches and fine jewelry, serving the discerning clientele of Atlanta, Georgia and the surrounding area. We are currently seeking a proven and effective, Estate Buyer to complement our highly driven and successful family-owned business.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Estate Buyer is responsible for evaluating, purchasing, and managing the acquisition of pre-owned jewelry, diamonds, and other luxury goods from individuals, estates, and auctions. Their role involves assessing the authenticity, quality, and value of items, negotiating fair purchase prices, and ensuring the acquired pieces align with Brown & Company needs. Item Evaluation:
Examine and authenticate jewelry, diamonds, and other valuable items to determine quality, condition, and market value. Pricing & Negotiation: Offer competitive and fair pricing based on current market trends, desirability, and company policies.
Customer Relations: Build trust with sellers, guiding them through the selling process with professionalism and transparency. Market Research:
Stay updated on market trends, metal and gemstone prices, and industry developments to make informed purchasing decisions. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate documentation of purchases, appraisals, and transactions for inventory and compliance purposes.
Collaboration: Work closely with head buyer, sales, inventory, and management teams to ensure acquired pieces align with business needs. Estate & Auction Sourcing: Identify potential estate sales, auctions, and private sellers to source high-quality pre-owned pieces.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS Experience in jewelry appraisal, gemology, or a related field (GIA certification required). Strong negotiation and communication skills. Knowledge of diamond grading and precious metals. Detail-oriented with excellent record-keeping abilities.
Ability to work independently and make quick, informed purchasing decisions. Understanding of market trends and pricing strategies for estate jewelry. Proficient in Microsoft 365 and Excel.
EDUCATIION and CERTIFICATION High school diploma Graduate Gemologist GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Must have authorization to work in the United States. May be required to lift packages/boxes up to 25 pounds. COMPENSATION Competitive salary commensurate with experience Brown & Co.
