Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to play a critical role in the development of our Emergency Services Platform. The ideal candidate must be focused on the details and understand how to create mission critical services. We use a variety of technologies with the majority being Java in an Openshift/Kubernetes microservices environment. Some of the product is driven by evolving 9-1-1 standards, so comfort with parsing RFCs and other standards documents is a requirement.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent

  • 3+ years of Kotlin / Java / JVM languages

  • 1+ years using Containerization / Kubernetes / Docker

  • 1+ years with MongoDB or other NoSQL type database

  • Experience with Spring Boot

  • Experience with microservices

  • Experience with REST APIs

  • Some experience in a mission critical environment

  • Some knowledge of ReactJS

  • Beneficial having experience with Spock

  • Beneficial having experience with Netty

  • Ability to knowledge share with other development and devops resources

  • Ability to translate standards to software requirements

  • Some on-call or after-hours work may be required

  • Nice to have experience with telecommunications, including SIP

What you will do: Sphero is looking for a Senior Android Software Engineer who will focus on the Sphero SDK, collaborate with app teams to integrate our SDK into mobile apps, prototype new and exciting experiences to incorporate into our products using our SDK, and assist with end-to-end automated testing from robot to app. Responsibilities will include: * Participate in the creative process from concept to creation! * Mature the Sphero SDK to enable internal and external app and game hacker/maker experiences with our robots. * Work closely with software, firmware and hardware engineering teams to implement world-class robots and experiences. * Lead innovative software development, and introduce development best practices and processes. * Mentor mid-level and junior software engineers. Who you are: You are a maker, creator, tinkerer, innovator, or the like, and want to influence the world of connected play and learning. You have a passion for learning and growing your technical skills (e.g. languages, platforms, patterns), as well as for mentoring other software engineers. More specifically, you have: * A minimum of 7-10 years prior experience in developing, deploying and testing Android mobile apps or games using Java and/or Kotlin. * Bridging between multiple languages (e.g. C, C++, JNI) is a plus. * Strong demonstrated knowledge of OOD/P principles, design patterns and best practices. * Proven leadership abilities in software engineering and agile development. * Experience working with other OSS, SDKs or APIs. * Positive attitude and excitement about hardware and robotics. * Great estimation skills, with a proven ability to deliver on time. * Strong collaborator, with an excellent work ethic and attention to detail. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent skill set. Additional skills we are looking for include: * Experience with C/C++, with an understanding of low-level programming, memory management, and optimization. * Experience with iOS, MacOS, Windows, or web development. * Familiarity with the following languages: Python, Objective-C, Swift, JavaScript/Typescript, C#. * Experience with Bluetooth/Bluetooth LE communication protocol. * Experience with hardware, robotics, or gaming software. * Experience working within a startup culture/company.
