The La Crosse Tribune is looking for a part-time janitor at our facility.

Duties Include:

  • Gather and emptying trash and recycling

  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.

  • Supply, clean and service restrooms with mops and disinfectants.

  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.

  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.

  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

  • Safely operate baling equipment to recycle cardboard and paper products. Observe no hands zones and warning decals on the equipment.

  • Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.

  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A RESIDENTIAL SERVICE ASSOCIATE / DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL (DSP) / CAREGIVER As an entry-level full-time or part-time Residential Service Associate / Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver, you get to facilitate your adult clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live with independence and dignity in the community. With up to four roommates living in a home under a true roommate arrangement, the feeling is family-like, rather than institutional. And, since you work with the same limited number of clients on a regular basis, you get to know them very well. You feel great about facilitating a full life for these individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities that you have the privilege to work with! You do more than just assist with medications, meals, light housekeeping, bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, errands, and appointments. While those tasks are important, you also provide companionship and socialization, as you support your clients in visiting with friends, attending events, or working on hobbies. You help them stay healthy in all areas by making sure that they are mentally stimulated, physically active, and well-nourished, encouraging their independence as much as possible. You also ensure that their homes are safe environments, reducing the likelihood of accidents and promoting a timely response to illness as you monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse. You are meticulous about reporting any changes or concerns promptly. You are also an advocate who ensures that their rights are respected at all times and that they aren't abused or neglected in any way.
