Jacksonville Teacher Residency
WHAT IS JTR? Jacksonville Teacher Residency (JTR) is a teacher preparation program that prepares individuals with eligible undergraduate degrees as secondary (sciences, social studies, English language arts), middle grades math or science teachers, elementary K-6, and exceptional student education teachers for Jacksonville, Florida's high needs public school districts.
Residents/members will serve in a yearlong teaching apprenticeship under the guidance of a mentor teacher while concurrently completing a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from the University of North Florida. JTR MODEL: o Earn a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from the University of North Florida in 14 months with FL DOE teaching license.
Receive a minimum $15,200 living stipend disbursed during your graduate/apprenticeship year (Aug 2024-June 2025). o Complete a yearlong teaching apprenticeship with a veteran master teacher in a Northeast Florida public school. o Participate in a Cohort-model teacher education learning community.

Member Duties : JTR AmeriCorps residents/members will serve an 11 month term. During the 2024-25 school year they will serve in a Duval, St.
Johns, or Clay County Public School classroom for 20-32 hours weekly as they complete graduate coursework. Residents will co-teach alongside a highly effective mentor teacher while learning instructional theories and practices for diverse learners. AmeriCorps residents will also coordinate after school tutoring sessions and school and/or community service projects. The AmeriCorps service residency and graduate coursework are closely aligned.
