Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs is seeking to hire an individual for an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse position at the Manteno Veterans' Home. This position will serve under the direction of the facility licensed physician and in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, and a written collaborative agreement with the licensed physician, and others as appropriate. The incumbent will serve as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) by using advanced diagnostic skills, professional judgment and the results of diagnostic tests and procedures to initiate and coordinate the care of patients. Essential Functions

  • 40% In accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, and a written collaborative agreement with the licensed physician.
  • 25% Prepares and maintains medical records and other required documents, including resident response to care and information given.
  • 20% Provides, or assists in providing, training/education for professional nursing personnel and other staff.
  • 10% Participates in safety and quality of care committees and/or other meetings.
  • 5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires current licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Illinois.

  • Require licensure as a mid-level practitioner of controlled substances as defined in the Illinois Controlled Substances Act.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of professional nursing experience, preferably with the geriatric population.

  • Through knowledge of physical assessment of patients, health promotion methods, pathophysiology, and clinical pharmacology.

  • Thorough knowledge of advance diagnostic skills, current medical, therapeutic, and corrective measures including medication.

  • Ability to evaluate patient condition and behavior and prepare accurate detailed records of such observations.

  • Thorough knowledge of professional nursing principles, standards, concepts, and practices.

  • Ability to make independent professional judgments.

  • Ability to instruct others in the proper practices and procedures of patient care.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass a background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.

  • Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.

  • Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.

  • Requires use of agency-supplied equipment (mobile phone, laptop, etc.).

  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.

  • This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • On-call and overtime are a condition of employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime, and may be required to work alternating weekends. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
