GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The primary role of the Information Technology Services Supervisor of Academic Technology & Innovation (ITS-SATI) is to oversee the integration of technology into the curriculum and instruction. This position plans for and provides professional development of teachers and staff in using technology effectively and creatively. The supervisor directly observes and manages the District's Academic Support Team of certified teachers and acts as head of the division within the ITS department. In conjunction with department leadership, is responsible for developing and implementing a vision and a strategic plan for technology-enhanced learning that aligns with the District's goals and standards.

The Supervisor of Academic Technology & Innovation also collaborates with other administrators, educators, and community members to foster a culture of innovation and digital citizenship in K-12 schools. This individual is a key liaison between executive leadership for teaching and learning as well as a thought partner for all District academic leaders. The work associated with this position will also play a key role in the District's evolving position around the utilization of LLM-based generative AI in teaching & learning.

MAJOR RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Assists in developing and implementing a strategic vision for the use of technology in teaching and learning across the District with the Director of ITS, Assistant Director of ITS and District leadership.

  • Supervises, evaluates and leads a supporting a team of instructional technologists (ITS-AST) who provide professional development, coaching, and technical integration and assistance to students, teachers and staff.

  • Collaborates with curriculum leaders, principals, and teachers to integrate technology into the curriculum and instruction, and to promote innovative practices that enhance student engagement and achievement.

  • Assists in evaluating and recommending appropriate hardware, software, and digital resources that align with the District's goals, standards, and budget.

  • Assists the ITS department with managing and overseeing the District's technology infrastructure, network, devices, and systems, ensuring security, reliability, and accessibility for all users.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective communication and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, community organizations, and state and regional agencies.

  • Collaborates with school administration to support a coherent vision for teaching and learning across content areas based on developed and approved standards within the District.

  • Facilitates regular meetings with administration and instructional staff to identify priority areas for continuous improvement of the District's technology curriculum with the ITS-AST and ITS leadership.

  • Engages in regular progress monitoring and feedback cycles to deepen the impact of technology content areas.

  • Assesses training needs; coordinates the design and delivery of professional development activities which facilitate the professional growth of staff and enhance the quality of science instructional programs for student achievement.

  • Provides subject matter expertise on district-wide initiatives including cross-departmental programs, and other academic technological resource development.

  • Maintains content area expertise by staying abreast of current research, practices, and innovation in the field.

  • Reports to the Director of Information Technology Services or designee.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology Services or designee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Connecticut Intermediate Administrator (092) certification required.

  • A master's degree or higher in educational technology, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, or a related field preferred.

  • Successful supervisory experience, including planning, classroom management, instructional development and delivery of professional growth, instructional delivery and student assessment strategies.

  • A demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of current and emerging technologies and their applications in education, such as online learning, digital citizenship, blended learning, and adaptive learning.

  • A proven ability to design, develop, and evaluate technology-enhanced curriculum and instructional materials that align with state and national standards and best practices.

  • A strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to work effectively with various stakeholders, such as administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community partners.

  • A commitment to continuous professional development and innovation in the field of educational technology.

  • Successful supervisory experience, including planning, classroom management, instructional development and delivery of professional growth, instructional delivery and student assessment strategies.

  • Experience writing curriculum with excellent oral and written skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, administrators, parents and community groups.

  • This is a BCAS union position. Includes all benefits as outlined in the current contract.
