The Application Specialist works under the direction of the application's team lead to design, build, & test clinical systems. They support workflow analysis, design and build sessions with Subject Matter Experts (physicians, nursing and other ancillary services personnel). They complete in depth and precise investigation and documentation of operational specifications and application functionality to deliver on expected outcomes. Attention to detail is a critical skill for this position. Successful candidates enjoy helping other users learn and adopt usage of the application. This position is part of an on-call rotation.

The primary job responsibilities for this role include:

  • Analyzes workflow and how it translates into application configurations to ensure consistent system design.

  • Anticipates and provides solutions to complex problems with the necessary priorities.

  • Completes specific build tasks as assigned.

  • Assists in building clinical order sets and testing of new clinical content functionality.

  • Contributes to preparation of testing scripts and materials and performs both application and integrated testing tasks.

  • Documents and maintains all required system design and build documents and configures system accordingly.

  • Actively participates in weekly team meetings to discuss team and project related activities, issues, change, communications, and updates.

  • May help to coordinate vendor support for functional and technical support of assigned areas.

  • Communicates with customer base on the progress of troubleshooting issues and project deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience in a HealthCare environment

  • Relevant experience in a challenging healthcare environment or with clinical information systems in an acute or ambulatory care setting preferred.

Position Summary: * Provides application and technical information system support. * Designs, analyzes, builds, tests, trains and supports assigned security for PeopleSoft applications. * Facilitate issue resolution, providing alternative solutions to problems and proactively enhancing application design and implementation. * "On Call" responsibilities as required. Position Responsibilities: * Builds and maintains assigned application security. * Guides the development and execution of testing methodology. * Conducts testing for assigned applications. * Coordinates vendors for functional and technical support and staff augmentation. * Participates in project management as assigned. * Participates in training, development, and performance evaluations of assigned project staff. * Provides customer response and updates according to current policies and procedures. * Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to: ITS Manager * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and seven - nine (4 - 6) years of related experience. * Healthcare experience is preferred. * Work experience may substitute for minimum education requirement. * Due to sensitive security and financial responsibilities, must successfully pass Credit/Financial screenings. * Working knowledge of state and federal health care information technology laws and regulations. * Working knowledge of general information technology policies and procedures. * Ability to multi-task. * Ability to operate various office machines including printers, computers and various software packages. * Knowledge of Microsoft Office products. * Written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion and sound judgment. * Must be willing to learn new technologies and techniques. * Must be willing and able to come to work in adverse weather conditions. * Travel to Hartford Healthcare sites within 30 miles of Hartford will be required occasionally. Supervisory Responsibilities: * May supervise junior members of the staff. * The number of direct and indirect reports varies by location.
