The entire organization is focused on a digital transformation. To support that objective we need to have a more balanced and efficient approach to how we run the business of IT. Things are changing and will continue to change. Our Development organization will guide key aspects of these efforts. We need determined, smart, collaborative people to participate in our quest to continuously improve while simultaneously looking at ways to optimize our applications and processes.

What you'll do

An IT Team Manager leads a team of software developers who design and implement end-to-end solutions. They also work very closely with the IT and Business teams that own and use those solutions. IT Team Managers research new technologies looking for trends and opportunities to creatively support the needs of the business. As a technical leader, IT Team Managers mentor software developers and create an environment of innovation, growth, and collaboration. In an emergency, IT Team Managers need the technical know-how to diagnose problems and provide quick solutions, sometimes diving into the code to do so. To be successful, you'll effectively communicate with project managers, architects, other development teams, and line of business representatives to provide transparency and properly manage expectations.

What you should know how to do

Now that you know what you'll be doing, let's go deeper with what you'll need to know and do to be successful in this role. In addition to what we've already mentioned, you'll need:

  • Knowledge of technology and workflow efficiency

  • The ability to determine the needs of the business and how these needs can be addressed through technology

  • Analytical, problem solving and conceptual skills including the ability to analyze processes through logical and creative thinking

  • Knowledge of team building and career development

  • Ability to lead and develop a small team of professionals

  • Organizational skills, including the ability to think logically and effectively assimilate meaningful information from large amounts of data ensuring critical deadlines are met

  • Verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms

  • Promote and establish internal programming best practices based on industry standards and review code for application of these best practices

  • Provide application support by diagnosing and remediating problems, performing root cause analysis, designing and executing application disaster recovery, tracking and remediating metrics and trends of application performance

  • Proactively lead and participate in technology/tools evaluation and software technical proof of concepts

  • Understand application development security and industry best practices

We use a variety of languages but mostly Microsoft technologies (.NET, C#, MSSQL, etc.), with some Java and other open source technologies on the side. So, it would be helpful if you had experience with those technologies. You and your team will need to be willing to learn new things and quickly become proficient when the need arises.

How do you show us you have what it takes? A degree in a related field and 7-10 years of experience is preferred for this position. You can use extra years of experience in lieu of a degree. Certifications are another awesome way to show us the experience and knowledge you've gathered.
