We're hiring an IT Systems Engineer in either Cleveland, OH or Pittsburgh, PA. Our Product Strategy team partners with various Expedient teams to collaborate and test out the viability of different technologies for our customers. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in a broad range of technical applications, with an emphasis on cloud computing (IaaS, PaaS), virtualization (including a deep knowledge of the fundamentals of VMware ESXi), networking, and security.

This position requires someone with great interpersonal skills, strong documentation skills, and a desire to explore new possibilities for advancing technology. A strong understanding of system architecture with an emphasis on VMware technologies also is a must. This position will travel approximately 10% of the time.

Your Role as an IT Systems Engineer at Expedient:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • VMware and related technology design and implementation with a focus on resiliency and scalability of architectures

  • Lead infrastructure design for public/private cloud environments (hosts, storage, and switching/routing/firewall)

  • Evaluate new technologies and create alpha/beta releases, and determine viability and suitability of existing technologies

  • Create innovative solutions to solve technology and business challenges/needs

  • Produce documentation of use cases, business and technical solutions, and overall technology conceptsand write reference architecture papers to explain how Expedient products can be used to solve specific business challenges

  • Present to and solicit feedback from sales, marketing and operations teams

  • Ability to prioritize and be productive in high-pressure situations, providing timely status updates to internal customers

REQUIREMENTS:

  • VMware ESXi design and implementation experience

  • Experience with network security standards and in network administration, including a strong understanding of internet/IP-related technologies, OSI model, basic routing and firewalling (VMware NSX or Juniper strongly preferred)

  • Experience working with technologies like Windows and Linux server management, IDS, IPS, encryption and identity management

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong troubleshooting ability

  • Ability to influence stakeholders about adopting new technology, solutions improvements, and updates to existing technology

  • Vendor-management experience

  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment drug screen

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • An understanding of VMware NSX and software-defined storage

  • Knowledge of scripting languages like PowerCLI, PowerShell, VBScript, Python

  • Industry certifications from VMware, Juniper, Microsoft, etc. (such as the JNCIA, VCP, MCSE)

  • SAN administration experience, and understanding of concepts such as RAID

  • Experience with Intel-based servers / iSCSI/SAS storage arrays

  • Experience working with industry compliance frameworks, such as HIPAA and PCI-DSS

  • Bachelor of science degree in a technical discipline

  • Additional experience that will benefit the candidate will include, but is not limited to, Cisco iOS, Juniper OS and Dell Compellent SC and Dell Equal logic PS Series SAN platforms

Senior Systems Engineer deploys custom software and services deployed on Linux systems within the enterprise. This position will focus on providing technical support to a team of Engineers and Service Delivery integrators on Linux / Unix based Enterprise Configuration Managed solutions. The Engineer will create full configuration management driven systems, execute life-cycle service models, and ensure integration with other systems works as designed. The Engineer will document existing and newly deployed configuration management solutions. This role will focus on complex troubleshooting and support within all levels of organization. The role will utilize ITIL practices to support new and existing line of business Linux deployments. Position will focus on Linux platform delivery, including the following: Maintain Linux service catalog, defining and maintaining system change management policies and programs. Essential Functions Strategy & Planning * Perform analysis of the organization's business needs, translate line of business requirements into use cases, design and implementation services for automating system delivery. * Develop, deploy, and maintain Linux delivery catalog. * Implement service level standards and practices for Linux deployments. * Participate in the development of standards and decisions regarding changes to systems/applications. Provide technical leadership and vision. * Identify open source tools, languages, and technologies for accelerating system delivery by leveraging automation and infrastructure orchestration techniques. * Define methods and practices for executing change management policies in medium scale server environments. * Develop practices and processes for applying security controls into continuous integration life-cycle. * Analyze new emerging technologies in the Configuration Management space and translate functionality of the new technology into an effective IT vision and strategy * Keep up-to-date on business trends and the latest technology innovations to forecast solutions, and anticipate emerging business changes * Collaborate with other technologists across the enterprise to assess current capabilities and bridge the gaps with legacy and future systems. VMWare, OVM, or XEN experience preferred. * Experience deploying applications, databases, and virtualization services. * Experience performing Linux security vulnerability detection and remediation (Qualys Preferred). * Experience implementing system, network, and data cryptography practices for Linux. * Experience integrating, deploying, and maintaining Java, Ruby, PHP, and/or Python based web technologies. Experience Preferred but not required * 2 Years designing and deploying configuration management services. Puppet, Chef, or Ansible experience. * Experience developing custom system and infrastructure integration software developed in Python. * Experience automating / orchestrating system administration tasks using SOAP and REST based web services. Experience applying practices to storage administration. * Experience implementing Linux server hardening and security practices. Experience implementing PCI and HIPPA compliance standards preferred. * Experience implementing ITIL based service catalog for Linux platforms. * Software development experience. * Enterprise Storage experience. * Working knowledge of database technologies (Oracle clustering and ASM, MondoDB, Mysql, and/or DB2).
