Nature of Work

This position is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of the technology infrastructure framework. This framework delivers business application services to the organization. Responsibilities include capacity planning, asset management, service level agreements, high-availability, problem management, risk and security, change management, incident management, disaster recovery planning, and project management. This position reports to the IT Infrastructure Supervisor and works closely with the entire Information Services team to ensure consistent, business-focused service delivery.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Based on the nature of this role, some work may need to be performed  outside standard work hours or during evenings, weekends, and holidays

Pay

2024 starting salary range is $85,306 to $100,361 depending on experience, with advancement to $125,451.

The work below is representative of the scope of work performed within the job classification.  Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment.

  • Design, install, maintain, and optimize IT Systems

  • Design, install, and maintain IT infrastructure systems, including physical servers, hypervisor, virtual servers, databases, networking, and communications systems.

  • Provide recommendations for hardware and software with respect to the IT infrastructure's capacity, throughput, and security.

  • Ensure hardware and software are up to date and perform at optimal level.

  • IT Security

  • Secure systems based on security policies, best practices and industry standards.

  • Adhere to RPU's security and compliance standards and requirements.

  • Coordinate the execution of external regulatory requirements including NERC CIP and PCI compliance.

  • Monitor, log, and respond to system and network events.

  • Conduct security related activities, such as patching, documentation, vulnerability assessment, investigation, and mitigation.

  • Disaster Recovery

  • Design, deploy and maintain an effective backup/restore and recovery strategy.

  • Continually test, evaluate and adjust recovery plans.

  • Respond to and mitigate service interruptions. Provide assistance in business continuity, recovery, and/or investigation.

  • Quality Service

  • Maintain an effective and productive relationship with customers and vendors.

  • Work closely with customers and vendors in identifying, deploying, and maintaining solutions.

  • Ensure peak performance and utilization of network resources through tuning and upgrades when appropriate.

  • New Technologies

  • Stay abreast of trends in the IT and IT Security industry.

  • Assist in positioning RPU to effectively utilize state of the art technology for utilities.

  • Develop plans for technology life cycle management and provide recommendations for the implementation of new technology.

  • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Education and Experience

A Bachelors degree in computer science or closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university AND three (3) years of full-time Systems Administration employment experience with MS server administration, server architecture & implementation, systems security, and network topology;

OR

An Associate's degree from an accredited computer science program or closely related field AND five (5) years of full-time Systems Administration employment experience with MS server administration, server architecture & implementation, systems security, and network topology

Licenses and/or Certifications

Valid driver's license

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Prior work experience with:

  • Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Servers, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, Office 365, WSUS

  • VMware vCenter, ESXi, VMware SRM, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure

  • Storage Area Network (SAN), Nimble Storage

  • HP Blade System

  • IP Telephony

  • Network/IT security monitoring vulnerability scanning, SIEM, logging, and incident response and investigation

  • Azure Cloud

  • Familiarity with compliance standards and practices such as NERC CIP, PCI, NIST, etc.

Prior to being hired, promoted or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check. Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training. Annual cyber security training is also required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of: network communications equipment to include but not limited to switches, routers, and firewalls; business principals, system analysis and design, database design, IT security and compliance principles, methods, tooling and practices.

Skill in: the use of Server Administration tools, server security, Active Directory, and Group Policies; time-management, including the ability to plan, document, prioritize, coordinate, and delegate work; building relationships to effectively work with a variety of people and personalities; and project planning and leadership, including the ability to understand the importance of being a proactive, supportive.

Ability to: analyze technical problems and develop satisfactory solutions; develop and maintain good working relationship with personnel throughout the organization to ensure the understanding and acceptance of applications and systems; understand the confidential nature of organizational and employee information and observes confidentiality; translate complex technical concepts in clear, concise business terms both verbally and in written form; and be a flexible team member to ensure the success of all initiatives and ever-changing business requirements.
