Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading activities in planning, gathering, defining, analyzing, categorizing and documenting business, user and functional requirements for work process automation, continuous improvement programs, new functionality and enhancements to existing systems

  • Provide second level support for application and information related requests supporting manufacturing and general business processes

  • Models current and future state of business systems and processes to identify and analyze gaps, redundancies and problem areas. Advises project managers on feasibility of enhancements and recommends solutions and process automation improvements

  • Facilitates requirements gathering sessions. Converts business requirements into appropriate system development lifecycle documents that meet corporate documentation standards and techniques

  • Develops test plans and coordinates identification, development and documentation of test cases. Ensures there is traceability of test plans and test cases back to requirements and design specifications

  • Coordinates execution of test scripts; prioritizes, monitors and reports on status of problems to project team; and ensures problems are resolved in a timely manner. May coach and lead testers in the development and/or execution of test scripts

  • Creates requirements plan and provides estimation of work for requirements analysis and documentation, testing, quality assurance and other responsibilities assigned as a Business Analyst

  • Participates in or facilitates project meetings, feasibility studies, and prioritization of technology service requests and initiatives with business partners

  • Advises and supports business in preparation of procedural documentation based on systems

  • Identifies requirements risks, project risks and critical issues and conducts analysis to resolve or provide recommendation for resolution

  • Executes project activities within the project management delivery workflow from project submission, through initiation, planning, execution, training, post-implementation support and project closeout. Liaises with internal and external business partners throughout the project

  • Uses statistical methods and data mining techniques to analyze data and generate business trends and efficiency with master data sets.

  • Other duties, as assigned

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelors' degree in Information Management, MIS, Computer Science, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or related field

  • Previous experience with HRIS systems/tools (e.g. Kronos, SaaS HRIS)

  • Previous experience with Manufacturing Shop Floor Systems

  • Previous experience in Application Integration frameworks

  • SQL database experience

  • 7+ years' business analysis experience

Preferred Education, Experience, and

  • Previous experience with Microsoft Productivity Tools (e.g. SharePoint)

  • Previous experience in Consumer Packaged Goods or Food Manufacturing environments

  • Project Management experience

  • Previous experience with project best practices (ITIL, Agile)

  • Previous experience with report writing in business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau)

  • Knowledge of JD Edwards enterprise resource planning (ERP) a plus

For this role, you will be working as a Data Analyst within Medicare and Retirement's Stars Performance Optimization & Business Intelligence team. You will be looking at data and analyzing, reviewing, forecasting, trending, and presenting information for decision support and business planning as it relates to Medicare and Retirement's success in Stars. This position requires a well-developed understanding of the health insurance / health care industry, and in-depth understanding of health care data and the methods of data analysis. Primary Responsibilities: * Retrieve data and conduct data-driven analytics utilizing various analytical tools, software, and techniques * Partner with M&R leadership and cross functional teams to make recommendations on Stars initiatives and improvement of business operations or processes * Bring data into a common structure, as needed, to support different analyses * Prepare written analysis and summarize results using data visualizations/graphical representations and professional formatting * Present analyses, findings, and recommendations to a broader audience including executive level leaders * Demonstrate substantial depth of knowledge and experience in healthcare domains – claims, provider, encounters, member, pharmacy, clinical etc. * Conduct research and analysis to identify areas of opportunity, issues/risks, or best practices concerning trends associated with Stars performance * Stay abreast of Stars domains trends and specifications (e.g. HEDIS®, Pharmacy, Survey, Operations) * Research questions raised by management and conduct adhoc analysis regarding data, trends, and anecdotal evidence * Develop a deep end-to-end understanding of UHG's data strategy/structure and overall use within the business * Conduct quality validation on analytical results and provide recommendations on completed analysis * Maintain a high level of competency in statistical and analytical principles, tools, and techniques * Assist in developing new procedures and training pertaining to data analysis and analytic development * Partner with other internal work streams to share knowledge and research findings Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree or higher * 3 years of data analysis experience within the healthcare industry * 3 years of experience with relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, Access, etc.) * 3 years of complex SQL script writing experience * Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and communicate insights * Experience working with large data sets and data visualization tools * Proficiency in Microsoft office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint * Ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced changing environment * Excellent written and verbal communication skills Preferred Qualifications: * BS in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science or Statistics a plus * Knowledge of Healthcare claims, lab, pharmacy, provider, and behavioral health data * 2 years working with data analytic tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or SSRS * 2 years working with analytics software such as SAS or R * 2 years working in a Big Data Environment(Hadoop/Hive/MapR) * Experience using code versioning software such as TFS, Github * Knowledge of HEDIS®, PQA, and CMS Stars Rating System & Specifications * Ability to quickly identify patterns and trends through advanced statistical techniques Careers at UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement.
