JOB SUMMARY

The IT Network Specialist is responsible for the configuration, installation and maintenance of computers and data communications equipment. The IT Specialist is also responsible for the installation, configuration and support of desktop/server software systems, troubleshooting and resolving network, software, and hardware problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Respond to and resolve IT related issues and inquiries.

  • Build and maintain servers located at corporate and unit locations.

  • Work with hotel units with assistance in finding Guest Wi-Fi providers when necessary.

  • Set-up and install computer hardware and software including disk, tape, printers, modems, and related peripherals.

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on computer hardware including backup, recovery and equipment cleaning.

  • Train users on computer hardware/software and other electronic office equipment.

  • Monitor operational performance and troubleshoot system problems. Isolate the cause of system failures.

  • Interact with various outside support and sales organizations.

  • Research and purchase computer, network and other electronic office equipment hardware/software.

  • Design, install, support and integrate centralized and distributed network hardware, operating systems and applications.

  • Handle Help Desk calls.

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

  • College degree in Business Management or Information Science, or equivalent skill gained through experience coupled with 3+ years of experience in systems support and project management.

  • MCSE certification is a plus.

  • Understands the issues involved with administering and maintaining corporate infrastructure, including network connectivity, Internet access, email, etc.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems, applications, and related support practices and procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated talent for interacting with a wide variety of people; ability to effectively organize and coordinate multiple priorities; ability to learn and develop new skills; ability to problem solve.

  • Ability to work independently, with a significant degree of creativity and latitude.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel up locally and nationally to units on an occasional basis.

  • Ability to sit or stand and usef a computer for the entire work day.

  • Reading and writing work-related documents in English.

  • Speech recognition and clarity, including the ability to understand the speech of customers and co-workers and the ability to speak clearly so that you can be understood by customers and co-workers in English.

  • Constantly communicates and receives verbal communication with other employees.

  • Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 15 lbs. occasionally, up to 30 lbs. seldom.

  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.

  • Use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: As a Broadband Specialist I (Field Technician), you will be primarily focused on new installations of our cable television and broadband services. You'll drive a company van, go into customer homes, and represent Mediacom every day to our customers. You'll also learn and perform a variety of duties including installation, changes of service, additional outlet installation, disconnection of service, payment collection, and any special requests customers may have regarding installation. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: * Makes customer drop installations (exterior and interior) complete from tap to antenna terminals on customer equipment in both single and multiple unit dwellings, including pre-wired units. * Performs new connects, reconnects, requested and non-pay disconnects; adds outlets; installs and/or removes converters; performs upgrades and downgrades of service. * Analyzes picture quality and judges acceptability of picture delivered following installation of cable service. * Works with connectors, fasteners and wire and uses hand tools. * Uses customary CATV hand and power tools in performance of job duties. * Completes appropriate paperwork functions as prescribed by system management. * Reads signal levels through use of field strength meter; adds and subtracts levels in installation problems; installs connectors on different types of drop cable; maintains proper clearances; installs tap-off devices. * Climb poles with proper equipment (safety belt, safety strap and climbers), ladders or other structures as needed. Lifts and carries loads up to 75lbs (including line ladder); Works within limited confines, such as crawl spaces. * Properly uses, stores and maintains a VOM or DMM to check for "open" or "short" on line as well as AC and DC voltages. * Reads general drop system layouts from blueprints. * Inform customers of FCC Rules and Company policies as they pertain to customers. * Drives Company vehicles in performance of job duties; uses bucket truck. Proper vehicle upkeep and maintenance. * Generate additional company revenue through effective sales techniques and by offering information about product options, sales campaigns and promotions. * Performs other duties such as clean-up and salvage of wrecked out materials; provides general assistance to other employees as directed. EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: * Entry level; 0 to 18 months experience. * High school diploma or GED required; trade school training preferred. * Valid driver's license; satisfactory driving record required. * General level of mechanical and consumer devices knowledge. * Ability to interact and communicate with customers and co-workers. * Ability to work in high or tight spaces. * Ability to work in all weather conditions and at various heights. * Ability to work flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.
