IT SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Principal and the Network Director of IT, the school IT specialist will
serve as the school's technology support by providing hardware, software and network support
services to the school and staff. To work effectively in this capacity, s/he must maintain good
communication with staff, and partnering organizations as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
● Possesses knowledge of working with computer networks and related computer
applications in a school environment.
● Performs hardware maintenance tasks, such as re-imaging hard drives, repairing
hardware and deleting viruses.
● Conducts routine service functions in maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing or replacing
component parts in school computers on-site.
● Troubleshoots all software installations, such as Microsoft Office Suite, Interactive
whiteboard software and security camera, etc.
● Provides technical expertise to maintain electronic devices currently in the building,
including computers, servers, printers, scanners, LCD projectors and Interactive
Whiteboards.
● Oversees work performed by Network system vendor support as necessary.
● Maintains inventory and prepares orders for computer and peripheral equipment
purchases.
● Participates in regular technology meetings with curriculum developers and other partner
organization staff to advise technology integration into classrooms.
● Advises the principal and instructional staff on technology needs and resources.
● Provides assistance to instructional and school support staff in resolving hardware and
software problems and recommends appropriate software corrections.
● Conducts technology related professional development for instructional and support
staff.
● Performs network maintenance tasks, such as wi-fi management, troubleshooting
network data lines and VOIP phone lines.
● Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting networks.
● Experience or accreditation with database management, and hardware repair and
installation.

Qualifications:
● High school diploma and at least 30 semester credits from an accredited college with
study in computer operations or related field of study and/or advanced coursework in
computer systems, networking and applications across MAC and PC platforms.
● One year of satisfactory full‐time experience in computer maintenance or repair,
mainframe and/or software or technical support.
● Prior work experience in an educational setting is a plus.
● Excellent time and attendance is required.
● NYS Department of Education fingerprint clearance and background check.
