Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirement:

Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

GS-5 through GS-15 (or equivalent): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

Specialized Experience: For GS-13, you must have one-year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is work experience for this position includes: Experience in using system development life-cycle concepts; Developing, testing, and maintaining large software applications that interface with other software systems; Debug and resolve critical problems in existing system which require innovation solutions; Assisting other developers with technical solutions; Communicating, coordinating and/or monitoring development efforts and schedules; orally communicate technical information in person; and written communication to a variety of audiences.

Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
