DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under general supervision, modifies moderately complex applications programs from detailed specifications. Configure, codes, tests, debugs, documents, and maintains those programs.

Competent to work on most phases of applications modification activities but requires instruction and guidance in phases. Note: This position does not perform systems analysis functions. Typically has two to five years of systems configuration and administration experience. May report to an 3rd Party Application Manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. Operates a motor vehicle.

There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. Significant time spent using computer display, keyboard, and mouse.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field. Application-specific technical certifications may be considered for substitution for 1 year of experience.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

At least three (3) years of technology experience creating or configuring software applications. Related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

A valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

PREFERENCES

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
