Senior IT Technician serves as a Technician on a team in the Customer Solutions and Services (CSS) division. Performs a wide range of technical duties to provide effective support for assigned technology functional area; troubleshoots and resolves system and application related support requests pertaining to maintenance and administration of computer hardware and software systems to meet business needs.

This classification serves as a first or second-level responder and may perform any of the following functions: sets up, maintains and monitors a variety of information systems including network, peripherals, operating systems and user applications; plans, implements and monitors hardware and software upgrades, patches, security and backup/recovery processes; installs, configures and administers a variety of commercial, off-the-shelf and internal applications; and performs other related duties as assigned.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Conducts an assessment of IT problems either on-site or remotely; investigates, troubleshoots, evaluates and resolves a variety of routine computer hardware, software, telecommunications, audio visual and peripheral equipment problems; determines whether a problem needs to be escalated to a higher-level staff member; and becomes a point of contact for any other higher-level Staff member or division if needed. 2. Performs routine information system security duties preforming updates and patches; implements network and data security standards in accordance with pertinent policies. 3.

Coordinates and plans with other information technology divisions by implementing and monitoring hardware and software upgrades, patches, security and backup/recovery processes; obtains new and upgraded system hardware and software packages; utilizes appropriate tools to install and test upgrades and patches; may develop utility programs as needed to ensure that new and upgraded systems work effectively with current systems and programs; determines and documents proper installation parameters for software and hardware in order to ensure smooth integration, transition and efficiency. 4. Performs various system quality assurance activities; tests and troubleshoots system issues using appropriate technology; executes testing plans to validate functionality and resolve issues. 5. Performs installation, operation and maintenance of computers and peripheral equipment; monitors routine system parameters such as response time and general performance; tests and sets up basic hardware and software configurations; performs basic maintenance and repair on system components. 6.

Performs OS and software installs, routine system backups, upgrades and/or other hardware/software support activities; connects computers to networks, printers, scanners and other peripheral equipment. 7. Trains audio visual and desktop users regarding routine technical processes; provides information on basic system and application functions; explains user access rights. 8. Informs management of existing or potential production problems; maintains problem logs; communicates with higher-level staff regarding documentation, testing and scheduling concerns; communicates production or testing problems to user departments and keeps them apprised of schedule changes. 9.

Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future hardware and organizational hardware needs. 10. Coordinate with third-party support and PC equipment vendors to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment and software. 11. Stay updated on new developments in, and analyze reviews of, computing technologies. 12.

Update and maintain the computer inventory and equipment. 13. Provides guidance/training to team members and lower level staff. 14. Provides after hours' technology support as assigned. 15. Perform other job related duties as required or assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED, and two (2) years of work experience as a first or second responder performing set-ups, maintenance, or monitoring of an information system including network, operating systems, and user applications. Any equivalent combination related to education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following: 1.

    Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation. 2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County. 3. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position. 4.

    Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver's license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver's license while employed in this position. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Mobility - frequent standing or sitting for extended periods; frequent walking; frequent climbing and standing on a ladder; driving may be required depending upon assignment; occasional pushing/pulling; frequent bending, kneeling, squatting and crawling. 2.

    Lifting - frequent lifting up to 35 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. 3. Vision - constant use of good overall vision for reading/close up work; frequent use of color perception and eye/hand coordination; occasional use of depth perception and peripheral vision. 4. Dexterity - frequent repetitive motion from writing and using a computer keyboard; frequent grasping, holding and reaching. 5.

    Hearing/Talking - frequent hearing/talking to others on the telephone and in person; occasional hearing of faint sounds. 6. Emotional/Psychological - frequent decision making and concentration; occasional public contact; occasional working alone. WORKING CONDITIONS 1.

    Work is typically performed in an indoor office environment, but may require travel to other locations. 2. Work environments may include noise, dust and/or unpleasant odors, and may occasionally require work in confined spaces. 3. Occasional evening, holiday and/or weekend work may be required.
