This position fulfills a key role in the COMIT IT Security Team at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) by using technical and project management skills/knowledge to ensure IT Security activities are conducted in accordance with task order and SOW requirements.
As an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) the successful candidate will develop a detailed understanding of the function and operation of the information systems maintained by the organization and is responsible to COMIT Management, the Agency Authorizing Official (AO), Information System Owner (ISO), or the Senior Agency Information Security Officer (SAISO) and/or Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for ensuring the appropriate operational security posture is maintained for assigned information systems.
Serves as the principal advisor to the AO, ISO, or the SAISO and/or CISO on all matters (technical and otherwise) involving the security of the information system.
Has the detailed knowledge and expertise required to manage the security aspects of the information system and may be assigned the responsibility for the day-to-day security operations of the system.
May be assigned additional responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to: physical security, personnel security, incident handling, and security training and awareness.
Assists in the development of the system security policy and procedures as required and ensures compliance with that policy on a routine basis.
In close coordination with the ISO, develops and updates the SSP, manages and controls changes to the system, and assesses the security impact of those changes.
Performs annual security self-assessments of his/her systems and reports the findings to the ISO and the SAISO and/or CISO.
Ensures effective and timely incident reporting of all incidents and suspected incidents in accordance with Agency and Center policies and procedures.
Provides reports on the state of regulatory compliance, plan development and approval status and significant issues relating to IT management and information security.
Highly desired: CISSP, CISA or CAP training/certification.
Preference given to people with experience in IT Security Plan development, auditing, assessments, and compliance with NIST and/or NASA/DoD standards.
Must have the ability to analytically solve problems that may arise and determine preventative measures.
Must be able to follow specifications, standards, and best practices from JSC and throughout the industry.
Must have strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
Must have effective customer service skills.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Candidate selected must be subjected to a government security investigation and background check.
Requires an Associates degree, technical degree in the field with at least 9 years of experience OR a Bachelors degree with at least 5 years of experience preferred.
