This position fulfills a key role in the COMIT IT Security Team at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) by using technical and project management skills/knowledge to ensure IT Security activities are conducted in accordance with task order and SOW requirements.

As an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) the successful candidate will develop a detailed understanding of the function and operation of the information systems maintained by the organization and is responsible to COMIT Management, the Agency Authorizing Official (AO), Information System Owner (ISO), or the Senior Agency Information Security Officer (SAISO) and/or Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for ensuring the appropriate operational security posture is maintained for assigned information systems.

  • Serves as the principal advisor to the AO, ISO, or the SAISO and/or CISO on all matters (technical and otherwise) involving the security of the information system.

  • Has the detailed knowledge and expertise required to manage the security aspects of the information system and may be assigned the responsibility for the day-to-day security operations of the system.

  • May be assigned additional responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to: physical security, personnel security, incident handling, and security training and awareness.

  • Assists in the development of the system security policy and procedures as required and ensures compliance with that policy on a routine basis.

  • In close coordination with the ISO, develops and updates the SSP, manages and controls changes to the system, and assesses the security impact of those changes.

  • Performs annual security self-assessments of his/her systems and reports the findings to the ISO and the SAISO and/or CISO.

  • Ensures effective and timely incident reporting of all incidents and suspected incidents in accordance with Agency and Center policies and procedures.

  • Provides reports on the state of regulatory compliance, plan development and approval status and significant issues relating to IT management and information security.


  • Highly desired: CISSP, CISA or CAP training/certification.

  • Preference given to people with experience in IT Security Plan development, auditing, assessments, and compliance with NIST and/or NASA/DoD standards.

  • Must have the ability to analytically solve problems that may arise and determine preventative measures.

  • Must be able to follow specifications, standards, and best practices from JSC and throughout the industry.

  • Must have strong communications skills, both written and verbal.

  • Must have effective customer service skills.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Candidate selected must be subjected to a government security investigation and background check.

Requires an Associates degree, technical degree in the field with at least 9 years of experience OR a Bachelors degree with at least 5 years of experience preferred.

Position Title: Project Engineer II Location: Houston, Texas (NASA) Contact: Kristen Gaustad, Senior Technical Recruiter Overview: The purpose of the Project Engineer position is to be an integral part of the engineering team providing services for the development of space-flight certified instruments to measure and characterize radiation environments for multiple programs including Advanced Exploration Systems (AES), Human Lander Systems (HLS), Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS), Gateway Phase 1 and 2, Exploration Extravehicular Activity (xEVA), and the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV). The candidate will support the design and test teams from initial concepts to final design including ideation, design and development, prototyping, testing and certification. This position requires the candidate to be well versed in the quality process for the development of controlled hardware, including the writing of Task Performance Sheets and disposition of Discrepancy Reports. This position will support the team in the acquisition and tracking of controlled parts through completion, development of controlled paperwork that transitions the design from piece parts to final assembly, the review and disposition of anomalies as those occur in the development process, the initiation and tracking of design changes as the solution matures, and consistent feedback and interfacing with project stakeholders. This position will require the candidate to be capable of reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings. This position will require the candidate to oversee and participate in hands on development activities. This position will require the candidate to demonstrate effective communication skills in working with the project, other project engineers, technical support staff and quality engineering personnel. This position is expected to participate in formal design reviews including the development of products and the formal out-brief. Responsibilities * Use project requirement documents and verification documents to develop assembly plans, test strategies/planning and produce test plans, test set-ups and procedures * Complete functional development, certification, acceptance, and interface testing of the hardware during the different stages of the project life cycles * Process hardware at Johnson Space Center * Interface with purchasing, quality, logistics, other HHPC stakeholders, and NASA stakeholders * Writing and dispositioning Task Performance Sheets and Discrepancy Reports * Read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings * Complete functional, development, certification, acceptance, and interface testing * Will perform other duties and assignments as required * Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and the Company's safety policies/rules.
