The Data Security Engineer is responsible for assisting in execution of the enterprise-wide strategy to develop, implement, and support data security solutions within the MetLife environment. This hands-on position requires strong collaboration skills to work with cross functional teams to engineer and support data technology solutions that comply with MetLife's information security policies and regulatory obligations. The candidate will have the ability to identify, document, support, and implement data security safeguards and configurations in a complex environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement, support, and develop data security solutions to enhance MetLife's data security posture.

  • Provide engineering and operational support for MetLife's data protection needs. This includes assisting with the implementation and support of emerging data security products.

  • Execute on milestone planning, provide operational support, deployment coordination, change management, and documentation of new and existing data security technologies.

  • Work effectively with other Security teams and external partners globally to assist in engineering and supporting data security solutions that align with organizational and strategic goals. Work with vendors of supported products to report issues, assist with research and manage until resolved.

  • Create documentation to ensure appropriate operational process and procedures are followed in the event of business impacting incidents or issues.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • A minimum of 2 years of IT Security Engineering experience working in an enterprise infrastructure or security engineering environment.

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following security technologies:

  • Endpoint Data Loss Prevention - such as Mcafee, Symantec, Forcepoint, Digital Guardian

  • Network Data Loss Prevention - such as McAfee, Symantec, Forcepoint

  • Database Security - such as Guardium, McAfee, DBProtect

  • Data Classification - such as Imperva, BoldenJames

  • Endpoint Protection Platforms - such as Crowdstrike, CarbonBlack, SentinelOne, Tanium

  • Endpoint Application Deployment Platforms - such as SCCM, Tanium, Ivanti

  • 2+ years of troubleshooting and investigating operational issues related to security technologies.

  • Experience working with change management is required.

  • 2+ years of experience assisting with the engineering, deployment, and support of security technologies across an enterprise environment.

  • Bachelor's degree required, major in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field preferred


  • Experience within the endpoint environment, including both workstations and servers and associated operating systems (Windows and Linux).

  • Familiarity with Azure, Office 365, and Active Directory

  • Knowledge of data classification, data loss prevention, CASB, and databases security technologies.

  • Professional certifications such as: CISSP, SANS GIAC, CCNA or other relevant industry certification and/or desire to obtain such certifications.

  • Exposure to tools such as Wireshark, Snort, Bro/Zeek, Putty, Kali, Security Onion, and Metasploit.

  • Skills with scripting languages such as Powershell, Python, VBScript, and Bash.

  • Experience supporting a global environment extending across multiple countries and time zones.

  • Strong interpersonal and team skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; command of additional languages is a plus.

  • High level of initiative, self-motivation, resourcefulness and collaboration.
