The Security Services team's mission is to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Montana's information assets. The Security Services Office of Incident Response and Technical Security (IRTS) is seeking an IT Security Administrator to:

Primarily support, monitor, configure, patch and deploy cyber security applications and servers with a focus on behavior based anti-virus, vulnerability scanners, and forensic investigation applications and servers. Examples of the primary and secondary duties include:

  • Provide support to the incident response team with security events.

  • Monitor enterprise security application and server performance.

  • Configure security applications and servers based on enterprise needs.

  • Troubleshoot errors, performance, and integrity issues with systems to identify root causes and recommend remediation actions.

  • Perform new security system/application evaluation, deployment, and configuration.

  • Organize and maintain IT security application documentation.

  • Assist with coordinating projects delegated by IT management.

  • Regularly execute and review systems vulnerability assessments and work with the Risk Management team on remediation plans.

  • Review system logs to identify security issues as well as bottlenecks and performance tuning opportunities.

  • Process automation and improvement.

  • Coordinate and execute production system patching and upgrades, minimizing disruptions to end users.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

What are we looking for?

Education and Experience:

  • Associates in an Information Technology required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience with systems and/or application administration.

  • Experience with administration of Next-gen Anti-Virus and Vulnerability Scanners a plus.

Certifications:

  • CompTIA Security or equivalent certifications required.

  • Security System and/or Application Administration certifications are a plus.

Competencies:

Knowledge of:

  • Behavior based anti-virus administration.

  • Vulnerability scanning application administration.

  • Server administration.

  • Server and security log review.

  • Microsoft & Linux operating systems.

  • Virtualization technologies.

  • Networking concepts and fundamentals.

Ability to:

  • Apply service-oriented security architecture principles to meet organization's confidentiality, integrity, and availability requirements.

  • Ensure all systems security operations and maintenance activities are properly documented and updated as necessary.

  • Ensure that the application of security patches for commercial products integrated into system design meet the timelines dictated by the management authority for the intended operational environment.

  • Implement specific cybersecurity countermeasures for systems and/or applications.

  • Integrate automated capabilities for updating or patching system software where practical and develop processes and procedures for manual updating and patching of system software based on current and projected patch timeline requirements for the operational environment of the system.

  • Perform cybersecurity testing of developed applications and/or systems.

  • Plan and recommend modifications or adjustments based on exercise results or system environment.

  • Properly document all systems security implementation, operations, and maintenance activities and update as necessary.

  • Provide input to the Risk Management Framework process activities and related documentation (e.g., system life-cycle support plans, concept of operations, operational procedures, and maintenance training materials).

  • Verify and update security documentation reflecting the application/system security design features.

  • Assess the effectiveness of security controls.

  • Assess adequate access controls based on principles of least privilege and need-to-know.

  • Implement system security measures in accordance with established procedures to ensure confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, and non-repudiation.

  • Mitigate/correct security deficiencies identified during security/certification testing and/or recommend risk acceptance for the appropriate senior leader or authorized representative.

  • Assess and monitor cybersecurity related to system implementation and testing practices.

  • Verify minimum security requirements are in place for all applications.

The State's telecommunication network consists of several Meridian PBX's and telephone key systems. We are in the process of converting all telecommunication points to a state-wide Voice over IP (VoIP) solution utilizing the AVAYA Communication Manager system with AVAYA Aura Messaging. The incumbent works with vendors, customers, technicians and engineers within the Network Technologies Service Bureau (NTSB) to design and implement solutions, taking in to account a wide variety of business requirements, technical specifications and available platforms. This position will work closely with Network Operations preparing for VoIP and assisting with switching configurations. The selected candidate will be responsible for level one troubleshooting on switches. What are we looking for?
