This is a telework position. Work may be performed anywhere within the state of Washington. The incumbent may be required to go into the office on an infrequent basis.

The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a dedicated, self-starter to join the Information Technology team as the IT Quality Assurance

  • Journey! As the leader of the Quality Assurance team, you will serve as an application testing specialist focused on developing and implementing test plans for OMNI and other software applications developed and/or maintained by DOC.

In this role, you will be responsible for creating and updating system test cases and regression test cases, logging and tracking defects and enhancements and automating regression test cases. The position is responsible for performing functional testing, system testing, regression testing, system interface testing and conversion testing. In addition, you will be responsible for performing backend testing using highly complex SQL queries.

You will be responsible for estimating and handling multiple testing efforts for assigned projects and responsibilities. A large responsibility will be to ensure the test team is specifically oriented to maintain an independent, objective stance ensuring quality in software prior to production release.

As an IT Quality Assurance

  • Journey, some of your duties will include:
  • Developing and implementing test plans for testing high-risk mission critical software applications developed by DOC (such as OMNI) to include:

  • Designing, developing and implementing detailed test plans, test cases, and test scripts

  • Performing functional system testing, integration testing, regression testing and database testing

  • Performing manual and automated testing on application

  • Creating test cases to fully execute all conditions and paths of application systems

  • Ensuring quality of the software applications developed in support of the department's mission to include:

  • Logging and tracking defects in the assigned functional areas and/or applications

  • Working with project team members, Technical Analysts, Developers, Business Analysts and other Testers to resolve project issues related to requirements, design, technical, data and user acceptance testing

  • Working independently to balance multiple testing activities as well as collaborate with other staff involved in the application development process to include:

  • Effectively prioritizing and organizing multiple assignments involving competing priorities to produce results that are accurate, thorough, and on time

  • Working with project team members, Technical Analysts, Developers, Business Analysts and other Testers to resolve project issues related to requirements, design, technical, data and user acceptance testing

  • Support effective communications throughout the organization

What we need (required qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree (Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science Degree) from an accredited institution whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a foreign equivalent

OR

  • Four (4) years of IT Application Testing experience in a government setting

AND

  • Four (4) years of experience in software testing, testing procedures, data analysis, and computer analysis

  • Two years (2) skilled level of experience in developing, documenting and executing effective test plan and test cases for testing mission critical applications

  • Two years (2) skilled level of experience in designing advanced SQL queries for database testing

  • Two years (2) skilled level of experience in test management tools, e.g., HP ALM/Quality Center, Azure DevOps

  • Tuberculosis (TB) is a priority health issue for DOC employees. The successful candidate may be required to provide valid proof of a baseline TB skin test within 60 days from the date of hire.  When positive tests result, further information, testing and treatment will also be required.   • Foreign equivalent degrees awarded outside the United States must have a credential evaluation report attached to your application. Telework Details

This position may be allocated for telework. Work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at that time.  Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite.  Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process. Some offices will have a "drop in" area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility will not be provided.
