UNM Online Strategies & Academic Technologies is looking for a Project Manager to provide project support across three unique departments at UNM that use technology to support delivery of higher education that it is accessible, affordable, and achievable for diverse learners across New Mexico and beyond. The person who brings joy, care, and compassion to work, has some interest in the use of technology in education, and is excited about using their communication and organizational skills to further the mission of the university will enjoy this position.

From the rapid expansion of online and hybrid meetings that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic to transformative impacts of artificial intelligence, technology is playing an increasing role in the delivery of education, in classrooms, computer labs, makerspaces, back offices, and online. Key to success is an understanding of the intersection of technology, pedagogy, and higher education policy as we design and develop solutions to ensure that the digital divide doesn't leave anyone behind. This position offers a unique opportunity to participate in planning, communications, scheduling, and coordination of efforts to support teaching and learning at UNM.

The success of this position will depend on excellent communication and organizational skills. Reporting to the Director of Online Strategies and Academic Technologies, this position will support a leadership team that includes leadership from UNM Online, the Institute of Design & Innovation, and UNM IT Academic Technologies. This is a mission-driven team that is dedicated to support of digital transformation opportunities related to student success, access, and opportunity within the teaching and learning functions of the university.

This position will provide project management support for a variety of initiatives spanning new technology implementations and integrations, classroom improvement and computer lab design, custom student analytics development, and process improvement / program planning activities in support of distance education delivery and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts regularly with the Online Strategies & Academic Technologies leadership team to develop and track projects that support the university's strategic plan, student and faculty success and retention goals, and digital transformation activities in the context of a higher education environment that is rapidly evolving

  • Supports project intake, business / process analysis, definition, and development of realistic project goals and timelines to ensure sustainable support and workload for our staff

  • Develops and seeks approval for project charters

  • Develops and documents project deliverables and ensures solid change control processes to ensure that projects stay within agreed upon scope

  • Tracks project progress, supports timely communication of project updates, and organizes any needed meetings including project team members and stakeholders

  • Supports requests for proposals, purchasing processes, and project cost estimation and tracking

  • Where required for successful project implementation, supports process and policy development and approvals

  • Reviews, evaluates, prioritizes, and approves projects and proposals

  • Maintains communication and collaboration with other parts of the IT service organization, Academic Affairs, and functional areas to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services across the university.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with project management in an educational environment

  • Experience and understanding of higher education dynamics and the evolving needs of students, faculty, and administrative support

  • Experience managing medium to large scale projects involving application configuration, software development, and technology installations in classrooms and conference rooms

  • Experience managing small to medium scale projects supporting business process improvement, procedure development, and implementations of new workflows and policies

  • Ability to understand and communicate highly technical information to a diverse audience of technical and non-technical individuals, especially faculty and academic leadership

  • Group facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills

  • Knowledge of user experience / satisfaction analysis and measurement methods

  • Knowledge of the current and emerging landscape of Academic Technologies spanning physical spaces and online tools that are shaping education today

  • Expertise with established Project Management methodologies including Waterfall and Agile approaches
