The IT Project Manager leads and manages IT projects of varying complexity and scope across multiple departments. Under limited supervision this role will gather the requirements to plan, monitor and execute countywide projects. The IT Project Manager will also contribute to the continuous improvement of project management processes and procedures. This role will also:

  • Manage the full project lifecycle from initiation to closure.

  • Accountable for assigned duties on large and small scale projects.

  • Manage the project changes, risks, mitigate issues and implement corrective actions.

  • Coordinate and communicate with County stakeholders, vendors and other internal teams ensuring projects are on track.

  • Create and maintain detailed project plans, schedule and track project status.

  • Evaluate project progress and report during weekly discussions about project progress, needs, issues and goals.

  • Ensure compliance with project management standards and best practices.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:

  • Paid work experience working as a Project Manager developing and maintaining detailed project plans, schedules, budgets and status reports

  • Paid experience tracking and measuring project performance, using appropriate metrics, targets, and objectives

  • Experience coordinating resources, assigning tasks and deliverables to team members to ensure project alignment to department stakeholders' objectives

  • Experience developing comprehensive project plans, including timelines, milestones, and tracking deliverables

  • Paid project management experience implementing project communication plans, providing status updates to teams, stakeholders, and department leadership

SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.

HOURS / DAYS: Work hours are Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Work location and hours are subject to change based on business need.

ANTICIPATED HIRING RATE: $35.77 - $48.82 Hourly

The Information Technology Project Manager assumes responsibility for assigned projects including leading financial management, developing the project schedule and tracking project performance to support business strategic initiatives and objectives. This role includes the management of issues, risks, challenges, and budgets for these projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Project Management, or related field

and four (4) years of progressively responsible IT experience

and at least two (2) years of experience leading technical projects and/or teams;

and at least 35 hours of project management education

OR

Associate degree in Information Technology, Project Management, or related field

and six (6) years of progressively responsible IT experience

and at least four (4) years of experience leading technical projects and/or teams;

and at least 35 hours of project management education

OR

An equivalent combination of education and job related work experience that totals eight (8) years of progressively responsible IT experience

and at least five (5) years of experience leading technical projects and/or teams

and at least 35 hours of project management education

Provide project management and project leadership:

  • Lead and direct cross-functional teams to deliver projects within the constraints of schedule, budget and resources;

  • When applicable, work collaboratively with 3rd party vendor project managers to deliver projects within the constraints of schedule, budget and resources;

  • Manage project teams, including 3rd party vendors, to meet contractual obligations;

  • Create, maintain, and execute project plans;

  • Coordinate the activities of the project team and provide guidance and assistance where needed;

  • Monitor and report on project progress to all levels of the organization including presentations at department, staff and county board meetings;

  • Ensure that risks and issues are identified, analyzed and addressed;

  • Escalate as needed to resolve issues to ensure project progress;

  • Participate in the development and implementation of improved project processes, guidelines and metrics for assigned projects;

  • Assist in the development of the project management methodology; and

  • Effectively apply methodology and enforce project standards.

Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work will involve remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time, although the incumbent will need to move about inside the office to access files or equipment from time to time, and may occasionally need to travel to other sites to perform work or interact with other professionals. The ability to operate and interact with computers or other office equipment, via keyboard, mouse, touch screen, or other Human Interface Device (HID) is required. The incumbent will be exposed to noise and a regular flow of people around an office environment, assigned to changing priorities and occasionally required to work outside of typical business hours to meet project deadlines, or be available on an on-call basis for special projects or to provide support. Additional physical/mental requirements that occur may not be listed above, but are inherent in performing the position's essential functions.
