The role of an IT Project Manager is multifaceted and pivotal to the success of technology-driven initiatives within an organization. They are tasked with overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of projects that align with IT strategy. This includes setting project goals, timelines, and budgets, as well as assembling and managing a project team. IT Project Managers must possess a blend of leadership, technical, and management skills to navigate the complexities of IT projects, ensuring they meet the desired outcomes and deliver value to the organization. Their purpose extends beyond mere project delivery; they are key players in driving innovation, optimizing processes, and facilitating the strategic use of technology to achieve business objectives.

What you'll be doing

ROLE PURPOSE

As an IT Project Manager, you will be responsible for planning and leading the delivery of technology projects and initiatives across the International Vehicle Payments Division.

You will have a strong understanding of project management having worked with a variety of different methodologies, including AGILE and Waterfall, ensuring that projects are completed within timescales and budget. You will be an experienced communicator, able to adjust your approach to converse with both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels in the organisation and you will recognise the importance of leading people through the change process, ensuring that plans and impacts are understood by everyone.

As a key member of the PMO team you will play a role in supporting the annual investment planning and budgeting process and supporting the ongoing structuring and prioritisation of the project investment portfolio to align to strategic plans. Where required you will need to be flexible and willing to compromise on process and approach to achieve short-term project goals or adapt to change in business priorities and as a leader of change across the division you should be able to demonstrate great problem solving and inspirational leadership skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

  • People

  • Leading project teams under matrix-management across several lines of business across UK, Europe, ANZ and Canada

  • Actively work with Agile Delivery Leads and Product Managers, leading well-managed projects to deliver high quality technical solutions

  • Build a culture of open communication, ensuring all stakeholders are aware of project status.

  • Inspire and energise your project teams, recognising that enjoyment and fun are key building blocks of a high-performing team in additional to diligence, skills and a willingness to do the right thing

  • Inspire and encourage project teams to grow and mature together through self-development, training and team-work

  • Project Management

  • Comfortable with adapting your project management approach to suit project objectives, timescales, technology and resource

  • Planning and reporting:

  • Foster a strong relationship with line of business Delivery Directors to understand project priorities and feed back into portfolio management board

  • Support the annual business planning process through engagement with Delivery Directors to understand their 3-year plans

  • Scheduling, managing, and coordinating all aspects of projects

  • Project delivery:

  • Mobilise project teams to quickly become effective, working with agility and flexibility to respond to changing priorities, dependencies and resources.

  • Tracking and updating KPIs/OKRs of the program(s)/project(s)

  • Presenting status reports of projects to management

  • Work with other teams to understand/inform cross-dependencies

  • Define project scope and schedule/plan to ensure that team and stakeholders have a clear view of deliverables, milestones and timescales;

  • Foster a learning culture through innovative thinking and stretching of skills.

  • Provide an open and transparent view of project progress, challenges and performance to all stakeholders

  • manage risks and issues; correct deviations from plans a, ensuring stakeholders understand with no surprises

  • Promoting team empowerment by ensuring that every member is fully engaged

  • Quality & Process

  • Own quality throughout all aspects of your teams' work.

  • Making sure project governance is maintained and best practices are followed

  • Track team costs and the projected project costs and time booking

  • Drive process improvement through a continuous improvement mindset;

  • Assisting team development by removing roadblocks to success and utilizing company resources to improve capacity for quality work

  • Maintaining software and operating systems for project management

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Demonstrable

  • Leadership in the delivery of IT projects

  • A solid understanding of modern IT systems & technologies and potentially software development theory

  • Demonstrated understanding of Project Management processes, strategies and methods; an industry qualification such as PRINCE 2 or APM-P desirable but not essential. Proven practical experience of project delivery in a fast-moving agile organization is essential

  • Ability to motivate IT colleagues, inspire and make project delivery fun

  • Strong communication skills with stakeholders at all levels with ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and concisely with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • A strong process improvement ethic; willingness to challenge and look for new ways of doing things

  • Flexibility and willingness to adopt approach to meet business requirements

  • Excellent organizational skills and experience with managing multiple concurrent demands

  • Strong sense of personal accountability regarding decision-making

  • Experience working in a high-level collaborative environment and promoting a teamwork mentality

  • Able to apply analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to predict challenges and seek to proactively head-off obstacles

  • A "can-do" attitude
