Job Overview:

Responsible for management of project managers including recruitment, development, retention, goal setting and evaluation. This role will coordinate activities of staff with other IT departments and stake holders. Oversee onboarding, selection and on-going performance of contract resources. Communicate project and program information with IT Leadership Team. Partner with IT PMO to drive process improvements, standards and policies the organization will adhere to in delivering the IT Project Portfolio and business initiatives.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Coaches, mentors, motivates and supervises team members and contractors, and influences them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

  • Supports the Project Management team work environment through the implementation of understandable and effective standard processes, practices & tools

  • Effectively communicates expectations to staff and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.

  • Liaises with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.

  • Fosters an environment of continuous improvement.

  • Effectively manages the employees and contractors assigned through partnership & collaboration with the UNFI senior management team.

Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years work experience in IT
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 5-10 years project management experience and/or training.

  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management

  • Proven capability recruiting and developing talent

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Proficient at communicating effectively to all levels of an organization

  • Management of multiple stakeholders


  • Strong familiarity with the PMBOK standard project management approach

  • Strong familiarity with project management software


  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills.

  • Highly self-motivated and directed.

  • Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.

  • Strong understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.

This role will be responsible for managing a broad portfolio of programs in the research and development space. The portfolio will include new product development as well as product optimization and cost reduction activities. Programs can range from a multi-year effort to as short as a month and range in cost from muli-miliion to several thousand dollars. Program Management experience in making business decisions in an engineering environment utilizing analytical tools to deliver product performance while meeting schedule and budget requirements is an expectation. Primary Objective: Plan, drive and implement projects that will enable MTS to accomplish its business mission and objectives. Accountable for the successful completion of Development Programs. This includes schedule, budget and performance. Major Areas of Accountability: * Develop a sound organizational plan for each assigned project. * Develop realistic but challenging project plans, schedules and budgets for each assigned project. * Responsible for the production of project deliverables within schedule and budget requirements. * Monitors work in progress to ensure quality and engineering standards are met and that designs are effective through the entire process; approves changes to designs or schedules as necessary. * Tracks technical problems to identify trends and determine cost-effective ways to eliminate root causes. * Ensure that engineering team members are informed of the progress. * Participate as a leader and team member, inspiring and guiding others, supporting and encouraging co-workers toward common goals. Work to maintain a positive environment within the group and with other functional support groups. Communicate proactively and work to resolve minor conflicts before they become major conflicts. Distinguish issues from personalities. Value and integrate the ideas of others. Understand and respect others' abilities and make decisions with the best interests of the team in mind. * Ensures that the company's needs and interests are met by the project-related contracts into which it enters. Manages day-to-day activities. Facilitates technical problem solving by ensuring processes and methods are in place to identify technical problems before they become crises and determine appropriate action to solve technical problems. * Respond in a timely manner, meet commitments. Work with engineering leadership to provide solutions. Build relationships with process owners, project sponsors, architects, or other team members. * Provides regular reporting to Sr. Management in preparation of P&L and Balance sheet forecast including revenue, shipped margin, warranty, WIP, receivables and advances for area of responsibility. Monitors performance against plan, and acts to minimize deviations. * Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent; MS preferred. Minimum 5 years of progressively demanding project management experience Previous experience successfully managing multiple projects within a similar sized volume/revenue, including developing project schedules, financial tracking and reporting, and allocating/directing resources for various phases of projects. SAP experience is preferred Must have demonstrated the ability to drive change and continuous improvement across a broad level/scope. Ability to build relationships, lead cross-functional teams, and build consensus among a large group. Proven ability to successfully solve complex business and technical problems. Working knowledge of industry engineering standards, practices, and regulations. Responsibilities: Manages other project managers to achieve program results. Successfully manages broader business issues beyond technical development. Examples: Business Partnerships, international contracts, system certifications. Ability to travel up to 10% domestic and internationally.
