PRIMARY CHARACTERISTICS

Principal Network Engineers are responsible for the most complex software applications, network systems and databases. This position will be responsible for complex projects and working under high levels of responsibility and autonomy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Sets enterprise direction in their respective area of responsibility. Key contributor in defining the technology vision and strategy

  • Publishes white papers, technology articles, position papers, case studies and presents at conference and tradeshows in front of a large audience

  • Performs feasibility analysis on potential future projects and presents to management

  • Troubleshoots systemic issues, documenting issues and resolving the most complex problems to completion

  • Proactively mitigates risk to ensure that all information systems products and services meet organization standards and end-user requirements

  • Works on the most complex systems

  • Develops IT standards and procedures

  • Ensures the safety of Information Systems Assets and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction

  • Weighs business needs against other concerns and articulates issues to management

  • Serves as a liaison or technical resource for others on their team or to partners within other business units

  • Serves as the most senior technical expert on their assigned systems or projects. Contributes to enterprise IT strategy

  • Focuses on systems efficiency and integration

  • May require 24/7 on call responsibility

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

  • Extensive technical knowledge of Information Technology field and computer systems

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Strong troubleshooting abilities to get to the source of problems and think critically regarding possible solutions

  • Proven leadership abilities including ability to share knowledge, resolve conflict and create consensus

  • Ability to take the lead on the most complex projects

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience as defined below. Graduate degree preferred

  • Bachelor's degree holders must possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in database operations or other relevant functional area of IT. Non degree holders must possess a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience

  • Relevant certifications required

  • Experience in the financial services industry preferred

  • Subject matter expert (SME) on Cisco networking systems, including: NEXUS switching systems, ASA firewalls and VPN appliances, ISR routers, network security solutions, chassis and stack switching systems for access and distribution layers, and network access control systems

  • Experience in designing and building WAN solutions through MPLS environments, including managing VRF configurations; deploying routing protocols; and implementing traffic prioritization

  • Experience in configuring and deploying network hardware in data centers, business and retail offices

  • Experience in deploying and supporting wireless networking in campus and business office environments, including configuring and supporting WLCs, LWAPs and NCS/Prime

  • Experience in designing, configuring and supporting LAN and WAN environments to support VOIP and video conferencing, including defining and implementing QOS requirements

  • Experience in analyzing designs, troubleshooting systems, and implementing WAN and LAN architectures and solutions in order to best meet client requirements

  • Experience in deploying systems and applications in load balanced network environments; experience working with F5 systems; Cisco or Riverbed WAN acceleration technologies

  • Knowledge of testing, validating, and implementing new network designs into an existing production, QA and test/development environments

  • Experience developing enterprise implementations to include complex designs, implementations, project plans, schedules, and migration approaches

  • Problem solving skills for design, creation and testing of network systems

  • Experience in managing video conferencing platforms preferred

  • Network performance modeling and benchmarking experience preferred

  • Ability to analyze packet capture information in order to determine issue causes and create action plans to resolve application and network issues

  • Ability to take direction and interact with the customer's engineering team in a collaborative effort

  • Ability to work in a time critical initiatives and results-oriented environment

  • Experience working in a matrixed environment, especially with business project managers. Has proven ability to leverage resources from different teams, ensuring customer needs are met. Has the ability to take direction and provide task updates directly from project team managers
