GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides mid level technical support for the enterprise network. Addresses and resolves complex technical issues. Develops, implements, and administers the enterprise network and provides technical expertise to internal/external contacts in a 24 hour 7 days a week operation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Performs installation, configuration, and management of the enterprise network.
  2. Provides Tier 2 support for the enterprise network; including switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, gateways, wifi, routing protocols (OSPF and BGP), monitoring and reporting applications etc.
  3. Addresses and resolves complex technical issues with internal/external customers, including assisting with problems escalated beyond Tier-1.
  4. Develops and maintains precise network documentation, reports and presentations for management review.
  5. Adheres to enterprise strategies and plans for network administration and security. Prepares and maintains device configuration, including routine backups, long-term archives, and disaster recovery support. Collaborates in the development and deployment of the Disaster Recovery Plan.
  6. Participates in change management and incident review as needed. Document changes and actions in change management system and ticketing system.
  7. Monitors and analyzes enterprise network performance and security. Ensures that network performance supports enterprise applications. Develops and implements network performance and security improvements.
  8. Provides remote support as necessary.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note:An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
  1. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related field.
  2. Five (5) years of functional experience supporting enterprise networks.
  3. Datacenter knowledge and experience preferred.
  4. ITIL Foundation certification preferred.
  5. Must hold a current basic network certification from a leading network manufacture at the time of hire or must obtain certification within six (6) months of hire. Certifications must stay current with industry standards.
  6. Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of enterprise network hardware, software, and associated equipment.
  7. Ability to work variable work hours. Available in the event of required emergency response.
  8. Exemplary analytical and creative skills to find solutions to complex technical problems.
  9. Friendly, clear and courteous communicator (written and oral) who enjoys being an active member of a technical team focused on providing highly valued solutions to critical business customers and technical peers at all levels, both inside and outside of DART.
  10. Ability to meet the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Receives first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.

The Network Engineer is responsible for implementation and maintenance the Steward Health Care System network infrastructure. This includes deployment and maintenance of router, switch and wireless hardware and network management server configurations; supporting/troubleshooting network/system problems; coordinating with vendors for installation of network hardware, circuits and systems, and project implementation. The Network Engineer will work with other network and security engineers, system administrators, systems analysts, support center staff, technicians, vendors, and users relating to applications associated with a production-computing environment. This position will report to the Director of Enterprise Engineering and will bring a strong in-depth knowledge of all aspects of Network information systems in a large enterprise. S/he will work together with stakeholders, leadership and subject matter experts to effectively support, design and deploy effective technical solutions that maps to the organization's strategy, processes, information, and information technology assets. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Responsible for maintaining the Steward network infrastructure. This includes maintaining router, switch, wireless, unified communications hardware and network management server configurations; supporting/troubleshooting network/system problems; coordinating with vendors for installation of network hardware and systems, and project implementation. * Performs installation and maintenance of network hardware, software, and solutions. * Recommends hardware and software acquisitions to meet projected demands. * Participates in network design and architecture decisions. * Adheres to problem resolution and escalation procedures, documentation, and responding to all related system problems and resolving them on a timely basis. * Notifies manager of problem areas and develops backup strategy and emergency plans. * Maintains inventory of network equipment, IP addresses management, service locations, maintenance agreements, and leased lines. * Keeps abreast of industry trends and changes in network software and hardware technologies in order to improve current service levels. * Off-hours availability for emergencies and change windows is required. * Performs regular on-call duties as scheduled. * Provides support for all facilities including corporate headquarters and remote locations. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: * Preferred industry certifications include: Cisco, Juniper and F5 * Strong understanding of IP subnetting and routing protocols including BGP, OSPF and EIGRP. * Ability to deploy and manage complex network LAN/WLAN/MAN/WAN infrastructures. * Demonstrates a strong understanding of subnetting, variable length subnet masks (VLSM), and virtual LANs (VLAN). * Understanding of the OSI Model. * Experience with Cisco network products is required. * Experience with F5 BigIP Load Balancers is required. * Experience with one or more firewall platform is required. * Experience with Cisco ACI is highly desirable. * Experience with Infoblox DHCP, DNS and IPAM is desirable * Experience with Linux, Splunk, Nagios, Puppet and/or scripting is highly desirable. * Ability to prioritize projects and daily work-flow. * Excellent teamwork and communication skills are required. * Excellent customer service skills are required. * Previous experience in health care environment is extremely desirable. * Must be able to participate in on-call rotation. * This position will be based out of our Dallas location but occasional travel to other sites both in and out of state may be required. As part of the Network Engineering team, s/he will be expected to assist with support of all Steward Health Care facilities.
