GDIT is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support projects for our client at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. This role will be part of a team supporting all of the CDC network services. This role will especially focus on build-out, maintenance, and troubleshooting, of CDC's WAN, LAN, and wireless networks. A thorough understanding of computer networking is required. The right candidate must be team-oriented and a fast learner who combines excellent operational judgment with outstanding troubleshooting and communications skills. You will need to maintain a high sense of urgency and focus, while staying cool under pressure. This position will work 8 hours per day during the work week with a rotating on-call schedule that is shared among the team. This role will be exposed to new technologies and will have time to test emerging technologies in a lab environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, documents, and coordinates the use and proper operation of network systems and environments.

  • Configures and manages all network equipment and systems including hardware, software, and peripheral equipment.

  • Maintains user accounts or security policies on software and hardware-based firewalls, routers and switches.

  • Coordinates with Information Security to ensure systems and security plans are up to date on all networking platforms. Implements, documents, and coordinates network policies, procedures, and standards. Enforces security procedures.

  • Build out, support, and troubleshoot networks and infrastructure projects for CDC Atlanta.

  • Supporting wireless networks across all domestic CDC locations.

  • Building new networks over either IP v4 or IP v6 implementing Cisco equipment. Provide full cradle to grave support of networks in the field.

  • Implement, troubleshoot, and maintain routers, switches, and equipment in both standardized and non-standardized environments.

  • Utilizing monitoring tools to determine faults with devices on the Enterprise IT network and the network itself.

  • Utilizing analysis tools to assist in determine the root causes of faults to the monitored node.

  • Following documented procedures to report and analyze system alerts and identify the root cause. Support T1, ethernet, routers, and switches

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Requires BA/BS degree and 3+ years relevant experience; or equivalent such as 8+ years relevant experience without a Degree or 2+ years relevant experience with Graduate Degree

  • One of the following certifications or the ability to obtain within 60 days: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Specialist

  • Working knowledge of IPV6

  • Routing protocols and network principals such as some of the following: BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, PPP, HDLC, SIP, H.323, Span-Tree, Multicast, TCP/IPv4, TCP/IPv6, NetBIOS, DHCP, WINS, DNS, AppleTalk, HSRP, GLBP, SNMP

  • LAN/MAN/WAN technologies such as some of the following: T1, Fast Ethernet, GigE, 10Gb, 40Gb, Fiber Optics, T3, CSU/DSU, MPLS, Optical Carrier technology, SONET, ATM, ISDN

Competencies:

  • Communication and presentation skills

  • Must have extensive knowledge of computers and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

  • Due to the amount of direct interaction with customers, excellent communication skills (written and verbal) are required. Must be reliable and able to work independently.

Desired:

  • Experience with configuration, installation and implementation of wireless networks

  • Cisco networking experience is desired

  • Cisco Routers, Cisco Switches, Cisco Firewall (Pix, FWSM, ASA), Cisco Prime, Cisco Security Manager, etc.
  • Experience with other technologies such as: F5 Load Balancers, Proxy Servers, Probe Machines, Network Sniffer, Decode Sniffer Packets, Radius, TACACS+, QOS, VPN, Wireless, VOIP
