Job Description

This position will be located at our Hamden location with responsibility for Stamford.

Works under the direction of the Director of Information Technology. Responsible for providing a full range of support for all CTtransit systems from maintenance of computer hardware and software, application programming development and automation of standard desktop software utilizing current development tools, network administration, design and management of operating system software.

Examples of Duties

  • Develop and maintain network environment including administration and maintenance of physical and virtual servers. Experience with VMWare and Azure Hyper V is desired.

  • Monitor all servers and maintain routine schedule of updates, security patches, and nightly backups. Perform server hardening in accordance with best practices.

  • Install and support hardware peripherals, operating systems software and application software for user workstations, laptops and tablets.

  • Establishes system and network parameters as necessary to bring about optimal network performance and monitors network equipment resources to ensure sufficient resources are available for continued processing.

  • Reviews, monitors and controls all network activities and resource monitoring. Manage daily operations and assist and recommend future infrastructure upgrades. Maintain an inventory of network equipment.

  • Provides network and data security and management of network server processes.

  • Assists in establishing network documentation, procedures and standards for the orderly flow of data throughout CTtransit' s networks.

  • May serve as a vendor liaison for the LAN/WAN and server units to resolve problems related to hardware and/or software. Coordinates with all contractors and service/equipment providers.

  • Assists in planning for growth of network resources by identifying any network bottlenecks, monitoring bandwidth utilization and monitoring server resource utilization.

  • Keeps informed on new developments in the fields of server virtualization, Azure Hyper V, network and cybersecurity, to assure that CTtransit will benefit from the advances in computer related technology.

  • Prepares reports, presentations, and correspondence as assigned.

  • Assists other departments and divisions as needed.

  • Responds to inquiries for information from employees, senior leadership, and/or external partners as needed.

  • Acts as liaison for the division with company Finance, Human Resources, and Pension administrators.

  • Work cooperatively with all levels of personnel.

  • Attends in-service training, seminars or other opportunities for professional development as made available by CTtransit. Provides training for CTtransit personnel as required. Actively participates in staff meetings, training, etc.

  • Has thorough working knowledge of CTtransit policies and procedures.

  • Manages the coaching, training, discipline and/or commendations for lower level I.T. personnel as needed across the organization.

  • Assists in the interview and selection process for other technology related positions as needed across the organization.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum possession of a bachelor's degree or technical education certifications in Computer Science, Network Administration, Cyber Security, or a closely related field and five (5) years of relevant work experience is required.

  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience on a year for year basis can be substituted for the 4-year degree requirement.

  • Experience working in a union environment, interviewing, hiring, training, employee development, and employee discipline.

  • Experience in network administration, network security, server administration and end-user support.

  • Technical knowledge of Microsoft Server 2012- 2019, Windows 11 Pro, M365, MS Azure, MS Entra, and desktop applications.

  • Experience with network firewall configuration and management particularly with Fortinet, FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer products and software's.

  • Fundamental understanding of network switches and routers including IPSEC tunneling, VLAN configuration, firewall log analysis, and VPN remote access troubleshooting. Experience with the Juniper line of switches is highly desired.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to multitask, manage multiple employees, ability to conduct training when necessary.

  • Knowledge of the basic principles of supervision, knowledge of progressive discipline processes, including demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, build commitment to goals, offer instruction, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • A Valid Driver's License is required. Individuals may be required to travel in the course of their daily work.

  • Basic knowledge or understanding of software programs (office suite) and public transportation operations software (CAD/AVL). The ability to quickly learn internal software programs.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in data gathering and analysis in preparation of reports as needed.

  • The ability to prioritize projects and have excellent interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy.

  • Must be able to handle confidential information.

  • The ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
