What we're building

The Good Eggs operations and logistics team builds the platform that empowers our entire supply chain from the tools that help our producers know what and when to make products to the software and hardware that manages the flow of food through our warehouse and delivery network. Our systems go beyond the screen and include mobile and hardware platforms that help our associates deliver food faster than anyone else in the industry.

How you can help

We're looking for an IT Manager to help take our warehouse technology from scrappy to solid. We believe in open source, commodity hardware, short release cycles, and continuous improvement. You'll be a member of the Operations Engineering Team, and the primary interface for folks on the warehouse floor that receive inventory, pack orders, and make deliveries to our customers. As we scale to multiple facilities we'll continue to hire more IT Technicians that will report to an IT Manager. You'll be responsible for:

  • Managing IT Technicians
  • Develop challenging but achievable goals that support our Operations team always having the tools they need to succeed. Ensure that IT Technicians have clear, measurable goals, responsibilities, and performance standards. Provide feedback to help Technicians excel.
  • Defining IT Strategy
  • Research best practices in the industry, make recommendations to continuously improve our processes, and strengthen our digital security.
  • Device fleet management
  • We have a large fleet of laptops, iPods, barcode scanners, industrial printers, temperature monitors, and embedded devices (IoT) are likely coming soon. As Good Eggs continues to grow so does our fleet! Help us devise a holistic device fleet strategy to keep track of our devices, stay ahead of ordering, manage repairs, prevent losses, and keep costs low.
  • Maintaining and improving network quality and consistency
  • Our suite of tools are web based and we have many clients on the network. Ensuring a fast, consistent connection is crucial to our success.
  • Onboarding and offboarding employees
  • Support the HR team in setting up (and automating) the technical needs of transitioning employees.
  • Budget management
  • Keep track of our Operations IT budget and make recommendations on spending.
  • Communication process
  • Develop an efficient way to meet the needs of the Operations team and keep everyone up to date with the latest information.
  • On-call
  • For network and hardware related issues, support our Operations team in delivering food on time by quickly resolving issues whenever they come up.

Ideal candidates will have

  • Minimum 2 years experience supervising IT employees

  • Experience supporting a medium-sized fleet of devices or larger. (>100 devices)

  • Experience supporting high mobility environments. (warehouse, hospital, school, etc)

  • Great communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Bachelor's degree in CS, CIS, or MIS. (or equivalent work experience)

Bonus points for experience in some of the following areas:

  • Warehouse operations logistics. (especially inventory control, pick and pack, etc)

  • Software development. (especially with a high level scripting language like NodeJS, Ruby or Python)

  • Collaborating with a software development team.

  • Shop-floor printers such as InterMec and Zebra.

  • Barcode scanners such as Honeywell Captuvo or Cognex.

  • Low-power embedded systems (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, etc).

  • Wireless network design and management.

The IT Manager leads a group of IT technicians and systems administrators and uses highly developed technological skills to make us more efficient. The IT Manager analyzes our current systems and assets, recommends and implements solutions and upgrades, and provides training. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of network maintenance, experience managing staff, and advanced industry knowledge to keep Hornblower on the cutting edge of technology innovation and solutions. The IT Manager is responsible for 24x7 support and operation of the entire Hornblower IT platform. The competitive candidate will have strong business acumen, communicate proficiently, solve problems, demonstrate a "can-do" attitude, and exercise critical thinking skills. The incumbent will serve as an IT leader at Hornblower, develop a deep understanding of industry business opportunities & threats, and align operational strategies and tactics around organizational needs. Position Specific Duties: * Lead, mentor, and train a team of IT System, Database, Network & Security, and Infrastructure technicians to effectively maintain, operate, and upgrade the Hornblower Company platform and supporting systems to ensure business and passenger needs are met. * Effectively support and drive planning, configuration, and implementation of solutions team to meet and fulfill new needs as they arise. * Develop, maintain, and upgrade the Hornblower IT Platform, to include (but not limited to): AWS operations, SaaS provisioning (SSO), Ecommerce and POS ticketing systems and temrinals, telephone systems, call center support, network infrastructure and services, application servers and workstations, custom and off-the-shelf software, NAS infrastructure, data storage, security, compliance and Business Intelligence/ Reporting. * Report to the VP of IT, and collaborate with other IT members in other ports, to ensure projects are successfully implemented in timely fashion in accordance with business and IT goals. * Appropriately respond to critical and non-critical system alerts and operational events. * Research, recommend, and ensure support and maintenance contracts are in place to meet business and operational needs * Ensure Systems and Infrastructure platform is appropriately architected, configured, deployed and maintained. * Supervise IT team to provide 24x7 on-call support for all critical systems and infrastructure. * Properly test and implement disaster mitigation and recovery plans. * Direct day-to-day operational activities and processes and ensure they are applied effectively at each stage of the operations processes to meet agreed SLAs. * Work with internal cross-functional teams and external technology partners to prioritize, estimate and complete projects in support of business needs. * Support and maintain meaningful relationships with external customers and suppliers, and internal managers in Marketing, Ports, Call Center, Accounting and HR. * Ensure system performance is reliable and optimized under peak and non-peak volumes. * Provide technical support for implementing new technologies. * Ensure team members have well-defined and current definitions of their job responsibilities, effectively measure their progress and performance, and provide constructive and timely performance feedback, counseling, and mentoring. * Perform other duties as assigned by management or as self-determined necessary for Hornblower to meet new, emerging, or changing department requirements.
