Research Clinical Trials Management Systems (CTMS) Unit within the division of Administrative, Research, and Education Applications is looking for an Information Technology (IT) intern who is interested in developing technical skill and experience in a fast-paced work environment.

The incumbent must be enrolled in a bachelors, masters or graduate degree program from a college or university. Typically, this internship would occur after the student has taken most of the courses required by the degree program.

Note: This student internship is a learning opportunity.

The position is classified as temporary and non-benefits eligible. The intern may work up to 40 hours per week (80 hours per two-week pay period). Ideally, the intern incumbent would work a six-month internship duration to build upon the breadth and depth of the work experience and project commitments.

Position description

The CTMS unit provides technical development and operational support for researchers conducting clinical trials at Mayo Clinic. The right candidate will be part of the technical staff for the Protocol Lifecycle Management (PLM) Project. PLM is a multi-year project aims to remove silos within the research shield (between Cancer and Non-Cancer) through alignment under common business models (i.e., architecture and process models). The project will be transformational in terms of its reach across the research shield and will result in significant business process changes, as well as a replacement for a large segment of Cancer Center Systems.

The successful candidate will experience software development methodologies such as Agile, Service-based architecture, database activities, and development tools such as Java (Linux), SQL, WebSphere/Tomcat, Maven, Git, and Spring Framework. Prior Java (or similar object-oriented language) and Oracle database (or similar database) experience is required.

An internship can extend to a maximum duration of 1-year, and we are seeking a minimum of 6-months commitment.

The primary purpose of the Internship is to provide an intern with relevant field experiences in their chosen field of study. One or more mentors will be assigned to the intern to provide instruction, guidance and to assess performance.

The intern is responsible for observing the functions and processes of the assigned work unit. In addition, the intern may be given selected work assignments to reinforce the learning experience, to assess the performance levels and to provide benefit to the work unit. The intern will be responsible for completing all internship-related assignments and reports for both Mayo and the participating educational facility. The duration and timing of the internship will be arranged with the intern.

Ideally, the intern incumbent would work an 8:00 - 5:00 p.m., Monday

  • Friday schedule to align with mentors and other core business operations and resources. However, this internship opportunity may allow some flexibility based on a student schedule. For example, if a core schedule of 7:00 a.m.

  • 4:00 p.m. was more accommodating. The intern would need to commit to a fixed/regular schedule to ensure business partnerships.
