Position Overview

The University of Kansas, Enterprise Platforms group is seeking an IT Engineer to assist in the implementation and operation of backup, recovery and archive services. The ideal candidate is someone who likes to develop new skills, solve problems and strives to find the best way to provide service. Team Overview:

The mission of the Enterprise Platforms team is to provide operational oversight to the enterprise platforms supporting the goals of the University. This includes storage systems, compute, virtual machine infrastructure and backup/archive platforms. The team fosters a dynamic and creative environment which is currently focused on designing the next generation of datacenter operations at the University.

Job Description

60% - Technical administration of Backup, Recovery and Archive services:

  • Installation and operational management of backup software

  • Installation and operational management of archive software

  • Fulfillment of file and system recovery requests

  • Implementation of orchestration and automation processes

  • Proactive and emergency maintenance

  • Capacity planning and performance monitoring

  • Create and maintain documentation on services and procedures
    30% - Technical administration of Data Center Management Platforms:

  • Installation and operation of console/baseband management

  • Implementation of orchestration and automation processes

  • Proactive and emergency maintenance

  • Capacity planning and performance monitoring

  • Create and maintain documentation on services and procedures
    10% - Other:

  • Other duties as assigned
    Note: This position requires participation in a rotating on-call.

Required Qualifications

1.High School Diploma/GED and five years of relevant professional experience or an Associates degree and three years of relevant professional experience or a Bachelors degree and one year of relevant professional experience.
2.Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.
3.Experience working in a collaborative team environment of two (2) or more people.

Preferred Qualifications

1.At least five (5) years of work experience administrating networked Windows and/or Linux Server operating systems in a large academic or corporate IT environment demonstrating high levels of responsibility and complexity.
2.At least one (1) year of experience managing an enterprise backup system.
3.At least one (1) year of experience of working with automation systems.
4.At least one (1) year of experience of working with datacenter networks.
5.At least one (1) year of experience of working with Powershell or Python.
6.At least one (1) year working with VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization environments.
7.Ability to work independently on complex issues/projects.

JOB PURPOSE: Successfully operate, monitor and repair broadcast equipment systems. KEY FUNCTIONS: * Responsible for the engineering, technology and troubleshooting of live and tape-delay, remote broadcasts using various video and networking equipment from on-site venues. * Determine cause of broadcast system failures and coordinate repair in a timely manner. * Monitor and maintain the performance of all broadcasting systems to ensure their continuous operation. * Set up, operate and maintain professional video equipment. * Encode, monitor and upload video files. * Troubleshoot and repair all cable and broadcast systems in the control room and at locations, over the phone, or from a remote computer. * Understand cable, broadcast and advertising insertion system performance specifications, perform tests, and repair equipment with minimal supervision. * Understand the reception and broadcast of all programming types including satellite, broadcast, and local origination. * Knowledge of automation, traffic and billing systems and their relation to the broadcast and cable systems. * Ability to manipulate connectors, fasteners and wire, and use hand tools and customary CATV power tools. * Work closely with the appropriate internal departments. * Produce timely and accurate reports. * Be willing and able to travel in accordance with Midco's "Use of Vehicle for Company Business" policy. * Communicate effectively and professionally in all forms of communication with internal and external customers. * Adhere to Midco's privacy guidelines to ensure each customer's privacy. * Maintain regular attendance as required by your position.
