Position Description:

The role of a Desktop Automation Engineer for the Engineering team is a senior position. This individual will be required to lead major projects specific to the design, implementation, and management of the Credit Union's endpoint devices. An intimate working knowledge of today's operating systems, desktop and laptop hardware, and client applications, along with deployment methodologies will be required for this individual to be successful. The Desktop Automation Engineer will work directly with IT Operations, Service Desk, and end users to standardize deployments, reduce tickets and escalations, to improve upon existing processes and procedures, and to reduce complexity throughout the organization. Strategic planning that includes thorough documentation is necessary. We require a big picture thinker that can produce effective results in a timely manner under minimal supervision.

Staff in IT Engineering are responsible for researching, designing, developing, documenting, testing and deploying new technologies in order to enhance credit union operations. They develop and apply models, processes, tools, standards, roadmaps and methodologies to support the organization's technical infrastructure as it relates to systems, networks, servers, endpoints, storage, databases, and telecommunications. They ensure that new systems are implemented with adequate capacity and appropriate business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities.

Advanced IT professional providing technical leadership in multiple areas of the organization's technical infrastructure and effectively contributing to technology innovation.

Essential Job Duties and


Designs the implementation of client software packages in a touchless manner to endpoint devices, ensuring high quality assurance and constantly improving the way by which these services are delivered with a forward thinking approach. Serves as a key technical resource and expert for multiple areas of the technical infrastructure. Provides training and documentation for day-to-day support teams on image deployment and support, performance monitoring/tuning, proactive capacity planning, hardware/server/application/service monitoring.

Ability to manage systems deployment process including concept, design, creation, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of Microsoft Windows Operating systems.

Troubleshoots most problems within assigned area(s), providing fault isolation and resolution that may be complicated by technology interdependency. Analyzes cross-technology/platform issues and addresses problems factoring in an understanding of the current and future architecture.

Specifies the monitoring points to assess performance of technologies in their domain(s). Recommends the necessary actions to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Leads the evaluation of new technologies relative to their domain(s). Proposes technology investments supported by a thorough technical analysis and business case.

Serves as a leading participant in industry forums, bringing new technical information into the organization and disseminating it to appropriate IT colleagues.

Develops disaster recovery and contingency goals for their areas of expertise.

Provides guidance and technical coaching to less experienced staff.

Provides input to RFI and RFP process related to their areas of expertise.

Minimum formal education required for this position:

Knowledge consistent with a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field

Each year of relevant work experience may be exchanged for a year in a relevant degree program or vice versa. For example, a requirement of "Knowledge Consistent with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and 2+ years' of accounting experience" could be substituted for a High School Diploma and 6 years of relevant accounting work experience or a Master's Degree in Accounting and 0 years of work experience.

Minimum work experience:

8+ years of relevant experience (operating systems, networking, security, scripting, disaster recovery, virtual desktop infrastructure, image prep and deployment, client application management, client endpoint infrastructure, major projects, etc.)

Technical or specialized knowledge/skills:

  • Must be able to function as a key resource and expert within the company for multiple technical areas.

  • Expert in implementing efficient procedures for backups, performance monitoring / tuning, proactive capacity planning, Disaster Recovery, granting user privileges/access, hardware / server / application/service monitoring, patching/updating, and group policy administration.

  • Strong understanding of IT systems/data security as it relates to financial institutions or other industries that must comply with federal regulations.

  • Ability to apply seasoned expertise in multiple technologies to address interoperability issues.

  • Must demonstrate a good understanding of new technologies and their applicability relative to assigned domain(s).

  • Must demonstrate a strong understanding of the current and future technology architecture, including the inter-operability of technologies.

  • Ability to provide guidance and training to other IT colleagues in their areas of expertise.

  • Understands business trends, strategies and the direction technology must take to support the business.

  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) with specific ability to translate technical details to a non-technical audience.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and Visio.

  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing desktop and laptop hardware.

  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, WDS, and WSUS.

  • Must demonstrate a strong understanding of Office 365 as it relates to endpoint management, licensing, and security.

  • Strong working knowledge of IT inventory/asset management & SCCM experience preferred.

  • Experience with the design, implementation, and management of an enterprise VDI solution (VMware, Citrix.)

  • Experience with architecting and engineering future solutions to refine and enhance support and services of our client computing environment.

Certifications required:

  • None required.
  • (Preferred) At least one of the following:
  • CompTIA Security +/ A+/ Network +/Project+/ASP

Environmental, physical and psychological requirements:

  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time in a climate-controlled environment. Must be able to use fingers, hands, wrists for repetitive tasks such as typing, using a mouse, handling paper, and operating a telephone. Demands for visual and auditory acuity are typical of an office environment. Must be able to interact via email, telephone, or in person with diplomacy, tact, and courtesy with all members under varying circumstances. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Starting Salary Range:$86,340.80+
