Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with sufficient experience to show competence and innovation in application development.
Two or more years of experience in developing ETL and reporting workflows.
Position Summary
This position is part of the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health at the University of Georgia - Tifton Campus (Bugwood). The Center develops, maintains, and hosts a large number of digital tools and resources including web, smartphone, and database applications. The IT Database Professional is responsible for working with center staff, federal and state agencies, and other stakeholders to maintain and develop data Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) routines for data import and export. They will also serve a key role in creating data exports to summarize the data and deliver that information to data stores for other applications in compliance with data usage policies. Both the ETL and data summarization routines must run on schedule with little user interaction needed. Each should also include checks for Quality Control and Quality Assurance with notifications when potential issues are detected.
This is a grant funded position and the possibility of renewal of this position for subsequent years will depend on the availability of funds.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Familiarity with AWS Services for Data warehousing including Glue, Athena, Data Pipeline, Data Exchange
Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server
Preferred experience with Spatial Data
SQL, Python, or other ETL related languages
Able to maintain appropriate documentation for data formats and schemas
Working knowledge of or proven capability to quickly learn additional programming languages, systems, and other tools as needed.

Data Import and Export
Develop Extract, Transform, and Load routines for data import and export. Data destinations and sources include AWS Athena, Microsoft SQL Server, Excel, CSV, TSV, JSON, Line-Delimited JSON, Parquet, Google Big Query, Geospatial databases and files, ArcGIS.
Analyze data in source format, understand source data types, schema, and ontology to accurately match with concepts in destination data formats.
Percentage of time 60 Duties/Responsibilities
Develop Queries
Develop queries to summarize data for use in data reports and value added export. Understand the context of the data and work with stakeholders to produce meaningful outputs that can highlight utilization of resources, impact of available resources, and connection between groups working as a collaborative team.
May include use of Microsoft SQL Server, R, Qlik, e-Charts, d3, or other tools that can summarize data and produce needed graphics.
Work collaboratively with programmers at the center for delivery of some reports to users online or through scheduled report delivery.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities
Debugging, Quality Control and Quality Assurance
Routine Debugging, Quality Control, and Quality Assurance for both data products and automated routines.
This duty applies to both of the above job duties and ensures that the movement of data in and out of the system is working smoothly and has high fidelity between source data end downstream products.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities
Documentation, Research, and Product Development
Responsible for documenting the current routines that are in place, researching other methods for achieving the same or similar outcomes and determining which are most effective for meeting the expectations of the end users. In some cases, this may also mean negotiating what is expected for functionality to be able to fit within the constraints of available budget.
All of the above duties are dependent on different technologies and tools. Every solution generates cost in terms of time, money, and compute resources used.
