What You'll Do

Reporting to the IT Enterprise Cloud & DevOps Team Lead, you will be the leader of Cloud & DevOps Engineering, and IPL looks to you to confront obstacles others avoid and solve problems through both creative and engineered solutions. You will be part of a dynamic team who manages the on-premise and Cloud infrastructure services within the parameters of business-aligned reliability, integrity, and risk tolerances. You will also drive the continuous improvement with an engineering mindset rooted in automation, self-service, CI/CD, and "fix for good." Other duties will include:

  • Strategy & Architecture:

  • Develop a transformation strategy that upends the established on-premise data center environment and results in a shift to a Cloud-native application architecture model that still provides reliable support for commercial-off-the-shelf solutions and monolithic enterprise systems (e.g. SAP ERP)

  • Design and configure server, storage, data center, remote site, and Cloud infrastructure to provide a high degree of resilience, reliability, security, performance, scalability, and flexibility

  • Design and configure data center and Cloud infrastructure solutions providing virtualization of servers, automated workload balancing, identity management, storage, backup, and the technology stack for enterprise applications

  • Influence technology priorities, decisions, and architecture patterns across the organization by providing an optimal blend of data center, Cloud, and Edge infrastructure services

  • Adhere and provide inputs to global standards, policies, and procedures related to IT infrastructure

  • Vendor & Stakeholder Management:

  • Manage data center, Cloud, infrastructure, backup, storage, and identity management service providers and ensure adherence to contracted SLAs and OLAs

  • Assist and consult with both developers and application analysts to drive standards and best practices as they migrate to Cloud-native solutions or emergent technologies

  • Technical Operations & Service:

  • Lead DevOps initiatives and assist in performance and scalability planning to ensure that solutions are technically sound, performance-efficient and aligned with a Cloud-native application architecture model.

  • Drive continuous improvement and reduction in manual technical efforts by automating infrastructure deployments and configurations through solutions supporting Infrastructure as Code. Cloud and infrastructure environments should maintain a high degree of availability, scalability, flexibility, and self-service in support of CI/CD.

  • Plan, configure, deploy, & integrate infrastructure and Cloud technologies including IaaS, DaaS, SaaS, PaaS

  • Plan, configure, deploy, & support Windows Server and Linux OS systems as well as SQL database systems

  • Initiate, execute, & support IT activities related to data center, Cloud, storage, backup, database, and identity mgmt.

  • Design, implement, and support Cloud orchestration, provisioning, load-balancing, and auto-scaling solutions in AWS and/or Azure. Develop reusable base images and tune containerized apps (e.g. Docker).

  • Technical analysis, performance tuning, systems monitoring, and event alerting on compute infrastructure, enterprise storage, identity management, backups, DR systems, databases and virtualized systems (e.g. VMware)

  • Practice effective incident and problem management, change and configuration management, capacity management, resource scheduling, load testing, and service testing with validation.

  • Implement security controls and research / resolve vulnerabilities across Cloud and enterprise infrastructure solutions

  • Design, implement, and support Identity and Security Management solutions (e.g. AD, ADFS, AD sync tools, MFA, Anti-malware, host-based firewalls, HIDS, patching tools, encryption solutions, least-privilege access control, etc.)

  • Manage Cloud and on-premise backup and DR infrastructure ensuring RPO/RTO targets are met

  • Design, implement, learn, and support DevOps apps and tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, Git, Okta, Figma, CircelCI, Codacy, Lucidchart, Gradle, Jenkins, Bamboo, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, Nagios, Raygun, etc.)

  • Develop infrastructure-supporting scripts using scripting languages (e.g. Shell, Bash, GO, Ruby, Python, etc.)

  • Resolve incidents escalated from IT Operations and Apps teams in a timely manner aligning to published SLAs & OLAs

  • Occasionally provide IT operational support assistance to end device management team supporting user environment management, application presentation, and application delivery to end devices.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work primarily in an office environment, and on occasion in a manufacturing or distribution environment as required. Long periods of computer and office machine use. Requires sitting, stooping and kneeling for filing, use of hands and fingers, ability to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk short distances. The employee may need to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds / 22.5 kg. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to wear and care for applicable personal protective equipment (such as, safety glasses and shoes, respirator, hard hat and ear protection, safety harness) as required by site specific requirements.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience. Beneficial if certifications available in some of the following areas:

  • AWS or Azure certifications

  • VMware, Microsoft, AD, SQL, Linux, ITIL, or security certifications

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a DevOps or infrastructure role supporting data center, Cloud, server, virtualization, storage, backup & DR, and identity management solutions

  • Minimum of 2 years' supporting Cloud-native application infrastructure architecture and Cloud technologies, preferably in Azure or AWS (including EC2, ECS, VPC, CLI, Security Groups)

  • Working knowledge of Cloud services in IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and DaaS and upcoming trends in the Cloud space.

  • Experience with Cloud orchestration, provisioning, load-balancing, and auto-scaling solutions

  • Experience with infrastructure and Cloud automation technologies that enable CI/CD, HA, load balancing, and "self-service".

  • Experience with IT infrastructure solutions which may include Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL Server, data centre hardware.

  • Experienced in any of the DevOps scripting languages (Shell, Bash, GO, Ruby, Python, etc.)

  • Familiarity with DevOps apps and tools e.g. JIRA, Confluence, Git, Okta, Figma, CircelCI, Codacy, Lucidchart, Gradle, Jenkins, Bamboo, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, Nagios, Raygun

  • Good at containerization of applications, understand best practices of Docker, develop reusable base images and tune Docker apps

  • Knowledge of cyber security solutions and secure design of both Cloud and on-premise systems and services

  • Experience in real-time monitoring and alerting of servers or apps deployed in AWS, Azure, or on-premise (CloudWatch, Solarwinds)

  • Exposure to ERP platforms beneficial
