Senior Research Associate Microbial Characterization

Impossible Foods

Posted 2 days ago

VIEW JOBS 2/20/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-05-20T00:00 Do you want to be part of an exciting company dedicated to solving the greatest challenge humanity faces? Then Impossible Foods is the place for you. Impossible Foods was founded in 2011 to create a truly sustainable global food system by inventing an efficient, sustainable way to transform plants into irresistibly delicious, nutritious food -- food that delivers all the pleasures and nutritional benefits consumers demand, without the destructive environmental impact. Our first product, the Impossible Burger, was introduced by top chefs to the world and is currently available at over 16,000 restaurants across the United States and abroad. We are hiring for a program to characterize and control microbial physiology in order to support the world-class products that enable our mission. To meet this goal, we seek a Senior Research Associate who is creative, sharp-eyed, extremely curious and highly collaborative. The role will help define fundamental, relevant aspects of microbial biochemistry and physiology. The person who takes on this role will interact widely throughout the network of Impossible colleagues to access a broad range of technical expertise. Together we will characterize and improve our microbial platforms by iterating through experimental design, execution and learning, then circle back to design. You will: * Work with program lead to understand, discuss and critically evaluate conceptual and experimental questions. * Define and probe relevant microbial features to include macroscopic properties, microscopic structure, gene expression, enzymatic activities and small molecule profiles. * Aggregate, help contextualize and summarize data; regularly present data at meetings and informally. We are deeply committed to transparency, accessibility, accurate communication and the proper deployment of caveats. You have: * BS or MS in Biochemistry, Biology or related fields. * At least 2 years of laboratory experience after graduation. * Deep familiarity with protein biochemistry and microbial physiology. * Proficiency with activities common among biochemistry and molecular biology laboratories (eg biochemical calculations, buffer preparation, pipetting, protein isolation, SDS-PAGE, safely running lab-scale equipment). * The ability to keep our mission top-of-mind while zooming into and back out of technical details and potentially reshuffling priorities as we learn. * A commitment to communicating clearly and continually improving this ability, the visual display of quantitative information in particular. * Perseverance; our work is important and fascinating but not necessarily straightforward. * Excellent computer skills, minimally to include facility with standard office software and a basic familiarity with programming (Python is preferred). Impossible Foods Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, or other applicable legally protected characteristics Impossible Foods Redwood City CA
